This past weekend, Lake Forest High School Boys’ Varsity Cross Country took 13th place in state at the IHSA Championship in Peoria. One runner made it into the top five in state and many other teammates exceeded their personal bests.

Big congratulations to Nate Schmitt for coming second in state! Schmitt ran three miles in under 15 minutes. He also had an eight second improvement. Schmitt said in his interview after the race that the team’s ultimate goal was “to get to state” and they did just that. Schmitt also claimed to have had some stomach issues during sectionals so he made sure he “to eat (ate) right, get (got) nutrients in my (his) body to be sure I (he) would be ready.” He surely made us proud!

In addition, Ben Rosa came in in 40th place alongside teammate Kaleb Whiteside with a 41 second improvement and coming in 53rd place. Other notable improvements included Elijah Fietsam taking a 12 second improvement, Casey Hippel with a 3 second improvement, Nick Tegal with a 17 second improvement, and Ethan Lane with a four second improvement.

Congratulations to all runners for their great season! Go Scouts!
