WINNETKA, Ill.– Lake Forest sophomore Kendra Joachim needed to turn in the two best efforts of her life in the 500 yd freestyle event to give her a shot at the IHSA State Title. She did just that, posting her best-ever time in the IHSA Sectional Meet last week, and on Saturday at the IHSA State Meet hosted by New Trier, Joachim turned in her second best time ever. Unfortunately, Joachim’s time of 5:02.41–just two tenths of a second behind Normal Community’s Julia Oostman–was good enough for the 13th spot in the preliminary race when only 12 girls advance on to the final.
The weekend before, Joachim powered her way to a 4:58.55 to take the IHSA Sectional title at Vernon Hills High school while also finishing 2nd in the 100 yd butterfly event.
Still only a sophomore, Joachim will look to build on her late-season surge next season as she joins the upperclassmen ranks at LFHS.
