Many of us love the feeling of wearing a good outfit: it’s empowering. Despite this, when it comes to getting ready in the morning, many often feel like they have nothing to wear. Here is a low effort, four-step guide on how to establish your own personal style.

Observing fashion

One of the biggest things you can do to elevate your style is watching others. Whether it’s fellow peers or fashion influencers, taking time to realize what you like about another’s style choices can help you determine what you personally appreciate in fashion.

Pinterest is also a great tool: many aesthetics and outfit ideas can be found there. By creating a board consisting of your favorite outfits, you will craft a feed that fits your style. Not only is your feed curated to your preferences, but you will start to repeatedly view stylistic choices that stood out to you based on what you pinned  in your board. Take into your account what was consistent among these outfits and translate it into reality. The way a piece is styled and accessorized can be replicated in your day-to-day wear.

Signature Style

Often people who are considered stylish have a signature style, meaning they consistently repeat apparel choices to make themselves recognizable. The main way to do this is through statement pieces. Finding a piece of clothing that is unique to you and can be styled in many different ways is an excellent approach to developing your style. Statement pieces can be reworn: repeating outfits  does not constitute bad style. Although there are many ways to  style any piece of clothing, experimenting with different ways to style a single piece can make wearing it again feel less repetitive.

Accessorizing

Whether you prefer a minimalist or maximalist style, accessorizing advances your outfit. Starting with the obvious: jewelry. With a simple outfit, necklace stacking and bolder choices will add excitement to your outfit. A busy outfit calls for the opposite: minimal jewelry. It adds a positive addition without being overwhelming.

Necklines should impact your choice of necklace: with more neck space, there is more room for necklaces stacks. With a high neck, less is more to create a cleaner look. As an alternative to placing jewelry on the neck, louder earrings can serve as accessories.

Jewelry is not the limit of accessorizing, though: bags, glasses, belts, and hair are all great additions to an outfit: yes, even hair. A good hairdo is like the cherry on top of a good look. One way to do your hair is with braids; Youtube is a great place for tutorials if you don’t know how to braid. Another option is hair accessories clips and headbands are effortless: no braiding, hair ties, or bobby pins necessary.

Outfit Formulas

You may have heard of outfit formulas before; it’s a base of an outfit that can be repeated with different pieces of clothing to give the illusion of variety. A very popular formula is the sandwich method: this includes a minimum of two different colors, alternating so that one is featured in the highest and lowest parts of the outfits, and the other is featured in the middle. Creating or adopting an outfit formula makes putting an outfit together much easier.
