Every student at LFHS carries a story: an unforgettable moment, a tradition that shaped them, or an event that captured what it means to be a Scout. Each student has a different perspective, but most share the same belief: an essential part of being an LFHS student is being together.
While every student’s story is different, there is a common thread connecting many of them: the power of community and shared experiences. Considering LFHS’s reputation for sports, many athletes believe time spent with their teammates as the most defining moments.
“Being a part of the cheer team at Lake Forest has been essential for me,” said sophomore Grace Rieder. “My friends and I have so much fun together and it’s a great group of girls who all support each other.”
That sense of unity appears not just in athletics but also through clubs, committees, and shared traditions. Students claim those moments of teamwork often teach them just as much as a class.
“By being a part of the pep rally committee [in Student Council], I definitely gained a lot of leadership experience,” said junior Lauren Hanson. “Since I had helped run it the previous year, I knew what to expect and was able to step up and lead new people through the process.”
Whether it’s showing teamwork on the field, leadership in committees, or cheering at a pep rally, students agree that unity defines the LFHS experience.
“One tradition [I love] at LFHS is homecoming weekend. The football game and then the dance after make it one of the best weekends of the year,” said junior Bella Daehler.
Beyond the excitement of sports games and school traditions, some students say the essential LFHS experience is also about finding balance.
“I have always liked the Wellness Walk; it’s a reminder for students as well as staff to check in on our mental health and provides downtime to students who [just finished] AP testing,” said senior Bella Bosau.
Looking back, Bosau said the event represents something deeper about the LFHS community: the importance of slowing down and appreciating the moment.
“I’d want future Scouts to keep in mind that you only get to go through high school once,” Bosau said. “Make those four years memorable to look back on.”
From the excitement of freshman year to the bittersweet moments of senior spring, the essential moments at LFHS are defined by tradition, community, and growth. No matter the grade, one thing is clear: being a Scout is something they’ll never forget.
