Over the past couple weeks of the football season, the Varsity Football Team has suffered injuries, resulting in the loss of three Wide Receivers: senior Connor Hiam to a torn ACL, junior Jack Burger to a broken fibula, and junior Jack Dacy to a toe injury.
“[The recovery is] roughly six to nine months right now, but it’s more towards the nine months on the scale. If physical therapy and everything else goes well, then I could be back in the next six months,” Hiam said.
Before the football game against Warren two weeks ago, Hiam believed his knee was hurt and thought he maybe shouldn’t play that day. However, he wanted to show that he could still perform. Unfortunately, things took a turn while running a blocking route: he was tackled awkwardly and tore his ACL, resulting in the end of his football career.
Hiam is devastated that he can’t play his last season but wants to help other players to take advantage of the opportunity they have to play.
“[I can help] make sure they know what they’re doing. If guys don’t know where to line up, I can let them know. I’ll help them by being able to just know how to run the route,” Hiam said.

While some players’ seasons are over, others can potentially hit the field again this fall. Despite only being out for a few games, Dacy’s absence has had a huge impact on the team. He wants to play again and help the team.
“I’ll be going back to the doctor on Monday, so hopefully we get good news. [My toe is] feeling better and I hope I can get back out there soon,” Dacy said.
Trainer Jennifer Regan is helping players like Dacy recover as fast as possible.
“This has been the most amount of injuries I’ve seen in a season in a very long time,” Regan said.
The players come into the training center everyday and utilize the trainers to help them recover.
“Because we see them during the day, I try to throw every treatment I know that is appropriate for their injury at them so that we can get them back as quickly as possible,” Regan said.
