As fall sports are at its peak, the student section continues to remain a big aspect of the school spirit becoming a driving force for high school athletics.
From SCO to UTS and themed games, students are packing the stands and enhancing the game-day experience not just for the people around them, but also for the athletes.
However, many students don’t stay the whole game, which results in a smaller, less energetic crowd during the key moments of the game where athletes could depend on the fans.

“When people show up to the game, and hopefully show out, it truly changes the atmosphere. It makes the game all the more exciting and builds a sense of school pride,” senior Scout Nation leader Evelyn Marshall said.
Although Scout Nation ensures the student section has energy and excitement, it’s not just about the fun going on, it’s about the impact it has on the athletes.
“I feel a lot more motivated when the student section has lots of energy because if I’m tired or upset it feels like I have people to motivate and pick me up,” junior Varsity Field Hockey player Megan Ross said. “I think that the student section creates a home field advantage due to the fact that they are so loud, and sometimes it upsets the visiting team which can ultimately hurt their playing.”
Although a packed student section can definitely transform the mood of the game, some athletes express that they have to bring their own energy and not rely on people around them to strive and succeed.
“I wouldn’t say it’s harder to stay motivated with a smaller crowd. I think our team always brings the energy no matter how many people are watching,” junior cornerback Madden Moore said.
Athletes may bring their own energy to strive and not be dependent on the crowd, however other athletes rely on the student sections energy to keep them uplifted.
Even if you’re busy and unable to attend every game, it is important to show up when you can and give your best energy to cheer on the Scouts!
