Lake Forest High School’s homecoming week is right around the corner, with festivities beginning on Monday, September 15th. Homecoming is one of the most anticipated events of the year, so here is a preview of the week to come.
We hope to feel and see a lot of school spirit around not just the school, but the community as well,” teacher Meaghan Cook said.
Another exciting event this year is the cereal box wars. Usually, this competition begins in the spring, however, this year it has been decided to be held in the fall to build more excitement around the homecoming dance while being able to give back to local communities. On Wednesday, the 17th, each student is to bring a cereal box to school. On Thursday, there will be a counting of the boxes and a competition of which class brought in the most boxes by 1:50 pm. These boxes will then be donated to local food pantries.
Leaders of the student council’s philanthropy, Carm Ventura and Alex Reidy, are very excited for this event. “We are really hoping everyone brings out their competitive spirit because it is a challenge between the classes to bring the most boxes. It is always so fun to see the turnout during the domino reveal on Thursday! Hopefully, this year we’ll have a record-breaking number,” Reidy said. Ventura agrees, “We hope that by spreading the word early this year and making it a class competition, we can get a lot of box donations. We really want this to be a successful event this year that can become the beginning of a homecoming tradition for years to come!”
Then comes the pep rally on Friday, September 19th. The pep rally will have a fun twist, incorporating themes of the garden party dance itself, while also keeping fan favorites such as the teachers’ musical chairs and the fall captains’ obstacle course. The pep rally is a great way to incorporate all students, and is one of the favorite events of the year. Scout Nation President, Emerson Buttener, is excited to play a part in leading it this year, “I’m really excited to lead Scout Nation at the pep rally. It’s always the best when the whole school comes together and gets loud. If everyone brings the energy, it’s going to set the tone for the rest of the year.”
Student Body President Josie Irvin is particularly excited for the pep rally festivities. “I am super excited for homecoming week! It is such a fun time for the entire school to get involved. I am also super excited for the pep rally on Friday because it is such a great way to kick off the weekend. All of the interactive games and performances make spirits high! It is a great way to connect sports, music, activities, students, and faculty,” said Irvin.
Finally, on Saturday, September 20th, the homecoming dance will commence. The dance starts at 7 pm and lasts as late as 9:30 pm, and will be held in the competition gym. Ensure you purchase your tickets in advance of the dance and bring your ID cards. This year’s theme is a garden party, and the gym will be decorated accordingly with plenty of garden-themed decorations.
Homecoming week only comes once a year, so as Scouts, let’s embrace the traditions and experiences that come with the excitement!
