With an exciting start to the 2025 football season, the Scouts took a commanding victory over Deerfield, winning 30-0. The defense took control of the game early and kept the Warriors behind the line.
Senior inside linebacker Jimmy Scheidler set the tone early with an explosive tackle for loss on the first play of the game, proving that the Warriors were no match for the Scouts’ dominant defense.
“Our defense held their offense to negative eight yards the whole game, which continually brought the ball back to our offense so we couldmake plays,” senior tight end Luke Pasquesi said. “We set the tone with our defense by stopping them, and stuffing them was really great.”
Riding the wave of momentum, senior outside linebacker Adler Schlacher took charge in the second quarter. He burst through the line and blocked a punt to get the offense back on the field.
Alongside the blocked punt, the defense also held the Warriors to multiple three-and-outs with Deerfield’s uncommon triple option offense.
“The linebackers and defensive line had a really big job this week, and that was to spill through the A, B, and C gap where the triple option hits,” Schlacher said. “The defense came out strong by forcing three-and-outs. As long as we continue to play hard, run to the ball, and carry ourselves on our shoulders, I think we could have a really good and successful season.”
Other defensive standouts include seniors Gavin Nelson and James Elliott, who forced and recovered fumbles alongside junior George Holland, who led the team in assisted tackles.
On the other side of the ball, Scheidler had three attempts for 31 yards and one touchdown. It’s clear that Schiedler can play both sides of the ball.
Also running the ball, senior Owen Yates stood out with a total of 103 yards. His running gave the Scouts momentum on the offense and set the bar high.
The rushing game set the tone, and the receivers followed with big plays of their own. Pasquesi had four receptions for 34 yards, including one touchdown.
Hand and hand with Pasquesi’s impressive receiving game, junior Jack Dacy also broke his
way through the defense with an imposing two receptions for 25 yards and one touchdown.
On the receiving end, there is one player that will continually go unnoticed: Junior Jack Burger had a game with two receptions, totaling 15 yards, including one touchdown before an unfortunate injury.
Even with the loss of key player Jack Burger, the Scouts still look to dominate Carmel Catholic this Friday. Some positions have been shifted to prepare, proving that the Scouts are a versatile team.
“We have some guys playing some different positions and we moved some guys [to positions]they did over the summer, so they should be comfortable in doing it,” offensive coordinator Dylan Jonson said.
