Elections for next year’s Student Body President and Vice President will be held next Wednesday and Thursday. Make sure you get to know each candidate before you vote!
Josie Irvin

This year, there’s only one candidate for Student Body President: Josie Irvin. Irvin has been involved in student council since her freshman year and has been president of the 2026 sophomore and junior student councils.
She is also involved in numerous other activities in LFHS. Irvin is a member of Student-to-Student, Scout Nation, Women’s Club, has played lacrosse for two years, and dances for the Varsity Dance Team. Being involved with these activities, along with holding previous leadership positions in student council, leads Irvin to believe that she is qualified to serve the student body as president next year.
“I have learned how to be disciplined as well as team and outcome oriented. It has especially been a great experience being a part of Student-to-Student because I am able to introduce LFHS to prospective students and share the welcoming community,” Irvin said.
There are many responsibilities that come along with being Student Body President, yet Irvin is sure that she can fulfill the role while facilitating new events and opportunities for students.
For starters, Irvin hopes to grant off-campus lunch privileges to juniors through discussion with administration. Additionally, she hopes to host a local restaurant once a month in the cafeteria so students have the opportunity to buy food from them. These are just two of her many ideas, but she hopes to accomplish these goals, among others, through hard work and persistence.
“I am also hoping to bring more food trucks to LFHS, host featured alumni and guest speakers, organize a Wish Week, and more!” Irvin said. “While I would love for all of these ideas to be approved, there’s no guarantee they will be. However, I will do my best.”
Irvin has high hopes for the next school year if she becomes Student Body President, but she is determined that she can accomplish them.
“It would be an honor to continue to represent the student body and put my previous leadership experience to work,” Irvin said. “If elected, I will work with the Vice President and executive board to elevate the high school experience to the best of our abilities!”
Carm Ventura

Current junior class Vice President Carm Ventura is one of three candidates for Student Body Vice President in the upcoming election. In her two years as Vice President for the 2026 student council and three years as a member, Ventura has loved working with others to form new ideas and promote school spirit.
On top of being a part of student council, Ventura is a member of the Women in STEM club, plays soccer, and is an upcoming captain of the Varsity Girls Tennis team.
“I will be able to take on that responsibility and leadership role [of being captain] which will help me hold a bigger student council position like Vice President,” said Ventura.
If elected as Vice President, Ventura seeks to raise the morale of the student body through more spirit events and improved spaces for students.
“One of my goals is to bring more school-wide excitement and spirit around important events during the school year…To do this, I think it would be fun to partner with local restaurants so that people can receive a free treat and be excited about the big games,” Ventura said. “I also want to refresh the commons space to make it feel more welcoming for people to come hang out and do homework.”
Overall, Ventura believes that she will handle the role of Vice President by promoting a positive mindset and fostering inclusion throughout the student body.
“I will bring a positive attitude to the group so that, even when facing challenges, we can get things done while having fun at the same time,” Ventura said. “I also want to make sure that our whole student body feels included in the process of making decisions for the school; It’s really important that everyone feels like they have a voice in shaping their own high school experience.”
Brooke Spencer

Junior Brooke Spencer is another involved scout looking to become Student Body Vice President next fall. She has been a member of student council since freshman year and was chosen as the head of the prom committee this year. Spencer said that her favorite student council experience was helping introduce the Winter Pep Assembly in January.
“I had been excited about that idea for years, and it was so fun to finally plan it with the help of Mrs. Konz and Mrs. Crouch. It was even more fun to see it through with the whole student body in the competition gym playing games and having fun,” Spencer said.
In addition to her involvement with student council, Spencer helps out as a member of Student-to-Student, CROYA, and yearbook club. She is also a wellness TA, peer tutor, and captain of the past year’s Varsity Gold Dance Team. Involving herself in these activities has allowed Spencer to interact with a variety of students and learn from others.
“From these activities, I have made impactful relationships with students from all different grades and interests at our school…My experience in leadership positions has gotten me very comfortable with making decisions and putting new ideas into motion,” Spencer said. “Being in so many activities has also helped me grow my own spirit for LFHS and share that spirit with others.”
Next year, Spencer wants to focus on highlighting the talents of students involved in the arts as well as encouraging students to support one another.
“For sports, I want to make our West Fests bigger, better, and more well-known to the student body to promote all the different sports teams and levels we have,” Spencer said. “In addition to having signing day for athletes, let’s also recognize the competitive music, fine arts, and media programs that students continue on to after high school, as these students deserve just as much recognition as the athletes do.”
If elected, Spencer encourages any and all students to reach out to her next year if they have ideas they want to implement throughout the school.
“I am an outgoing and approachable person and love to get stuff done, especially as it can positively impact our amazing school and student body,” said Spencer. “Overall, I will be open to any and all ideas from the student body and want to make this the most exciting year yet.”
Ethan Farrell

The last of three candidates running for Student Body Vice President is junior Ethan Farrell. Farrell has been a member of student council for three years and was the head of the 2026 communication and spirit committee this past year.
Outside of student council, Farrell is on the Varsity Football, Boys Lacrosse, and Squash teams at the high school. Along with being an integrated wellness TA, he is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Scout Buddies, Link Crew, and Special Olympics. Farrell believes he gained leadership skills as a result of participating in so many groups.
“Being involved in such a wide variety of activities has helped me grow and learn from all sorts of people at the school by taking their feedback and turning that feedback into action,” Farrell said.
If Farrell is elected, he will continue to listen and respond to students’ voices and opinions.
“I want to be a voice for the student body. I believe that a more direct system of submitting critiques of everyday life at the school will have compounding benefits for the student body in the present and for years to come,” said Farrell. “…I will accomplish this by establishing a school-wide Google Form feedback system where students can voice their ideas, thoughts, and concerns.”
Farrell has specifically noticed one concern of the student body: the closure of the school doors by Noble Avenue. If Farrell is elected, he hopes to open those doors before school so more students arrive to class on time.
“Opening up the doors closest to Noble Avenue, just for 20 minutes before classes start, will further improve the morale of students and overall attendance records. This will help ensure that students are in class at the proper time, enhancing their ability to learn and succeed,” Farrell said.
All in all, Farrell hopes to use his previous leadership experience to be an outlet for student concerns and improve the students’ experience at the school.
“Through team building exercises and being a mentor for the students that I have had the pleasure of helping, I have grown as a leader and I will continue to implement these qualities as the Student Body Vice President if elected,” said Farrell.

While it’s clear Farrell is the best man for the job, I do have one concern. Because he is running for Vice, will his ambitious plans and dashing looks overpower the actual Student Body President? Just a thought.
