Many juniors and seniors likely remember the intense chicken-eating contest that took place in the Spring of 2023. Seniors Henrik Goldsberry and Jack Kaplan raced against the clock to see who could finish a full rotisserie chicken first.
After the long wait for the return, The Forest Scout is excited to bring it back on May 14 at 1:50 p.m. It will take place outside on the pool patio by the trainers door and senior lot.
Following the National Anthem, Nate Borland will face off against Alex Terlap. Assistant Principal Mr. Lesniak and social worker Mrs. Harmsen will be the judges. Senior Trevor Diem will be the emcee.
The rules are simple: The first to finish their deboned chicken wins and will be rewarded with a chicken trophy.
“The battle two years ago was really fun, and both contestants did a really good job. I think the only negative was the lack of planning and the dangerous environment created by students standing on chairs to be able to see,” Mr. Lesniak said.
The 2023 contestants remember the event fondly.
“It was extremely fun to eat good chicken with my friend Henrik,” reigning champion Jack Kaplan said.

“I woke up craving chicken,” runner up Henrik Goldsberry said. It was obviously a very fun and special event for LFHS.
Contestants this year are going into it with a competitive mindset, which makes it even more intense.
“I’ve been the champ since the day it was mentioned. It was always ‘Who’s Borland gonna go against?” contestant Nate Borland said. “People suggested Nicholas Nassar, people suggested Danny Van Camp, people suggested Alex Terlap to all take me down, I have a rep to defend. I’m not the underdog.”
The organization of the event is a bit different from the first one.
“I really like what we did two years ago, and we’re trying to run with it, but make it more safe and organized so that everyone can see it and enjoy it. The organization will be beneficial in avoiding the safety issues we previously had,” Lesniak said.
“This time, the contestants will be on a platform so everyone can see them without issue. We want to make sure to make it so kids aren’t ditching class or late to class by making it real quick, having fun, then hitting the road to get to class.”
With the concern that kids will ditch their last period to hang around after the contest, Antwon will be telling students to go back to class at around 1:58, so students aren’t late.
