There are many different words for “vintage”: prime, superior, best, and, of course, old. Vintage clothing has recently become incredibly popular and, as a result, many stores have begun to sell vintage items. However, their version of “vintage” is trying to make new things look old; but, that’s not really how it works. Something that can be considered vintage is something from the past that was popular, and since then has grown an audience of people who know what it is, but don’t always use it— like a typewriter or a record player. But vintage fashion is a whole other story.

The underground store “The Guild” is a place where vintage things roam the floors and walls. Emily Vaughn, Laura McMahon, and Izzy Diamond, all local artists and collectors, opened the store using two floors of Diamond’s house. Their main location was in Chicago and was open only on Thursdays and one Saturday of the month until they all came together to form this amazing store now located in Highland Park.
You can find many different, fun, and unique pieces in this store like paintings, clothes, bags, jewelry, and silverware. Every week they have new products coming in from vendors around the world. Some of their more unique and creative products are handpicked from Europe. Vaughn is a very big traveler and will likely be out of town finding new things to bring to the store.

I first heard about this place from my mom who was out with her friends and found the store. She immediately called me and said I should come check it out, mainly because they were looking for an intern. I had never done anything related to what they were looking for but I was up for the challenge. When I initially walked into the store, my mind was blown when I saw all the decorations and showrooms around the house.
It is an awesome experience to see all of the art work and fun trinkets around the store. It is a great expression of vintage and a new way to look at older fashion and how it can still be popular today. You can shop online at The Guild.
