Owen Kohut, a senior at LFHS, is committed to take his sailing skills to Georgetown University. This Q&A goes over his exciting journey as a sailor.
When did you first start sailing?
“I started sailing when I was six years old on Delavan Lake.”
How did you get into sailing?
“Our house in Wisconsin is right next to a sailing school, so I eventually ended up joining.”

What’s your favorite thing about sailing?
“My favorite thing about sailing is all of the cool places it takes me.”
Where’s the coolest place you’ve sailed to?
“The coolest place I’ve sailed is Whidbey Island, Washington.”
When did you realize you wanted to sail in college?
“I knew I wanted to sail in college during my freshman year when I started to see some of my teammates and friends commit to schools.”
What are you most looking forward to about sailing in college?
“I’m most excited about meeting new people from different schools and to experience the competitive nature of sailing in college.”
Kohut’s passion and dedication to sailing led him to have the opportunity to sail at one of the top collegiate sailing programs in the nation. After years of hard work, he is now able to take on a new level of competition and continue improving in the sport.
