The Men’s Varsity Basketball Team’s season ended Wednesday night in the Sectional Semifinals. The Scouts (22-10, 10-4) lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Deerfield Warriors (24-7, 7-3) by a final score of 33-31.
The Scouts played a solid second half, outscoring the Warriors 27-23. Unfortunately, it was not enough to dig out of the hole from the first half. The Scouts trailed 10-4 at halftime in a defensive battle where neither team could get shots to fall.
Although the season came to an end earlier than everyone hoped, the Scouts had an excellent season. The biggest question for the Scouts this year was who would replace the four graduating starters from last season. The Scouts started many different guys throughout the season, all of whom seemed to fit right in. The nine seniors on this team will be missed next year as they played a huge role with their leadership and skill.
Lake Forest had an excellent season with many notable wins: two huge wins over rival Libertyville, a top-ranked Rolling Meadows team, a solid Loyola team, sweeping the Conference Champions in Waukegan, and getting one from Warren.
Next year, the Scouts have a lot of talent that will have a chance to shine, but key returners Dominic Mordini and sophomore Rory Haas are in line to lead the team.
It was a very good year for the Scouts, but next season they hope to make an even deeper run in the playoffs.
