As spring arrives, the Girls Varsity Soccer team is gearing up to kick off a new spring season and take another shot at success.
After making it to sectionals last year and super sectionals the season prior, the Scouts are looking to make their mark in 2025.
“We are making vision boards for this season, and our visions include making it to state,” said senior soccer team member Olivia Auriol.
The Scouts fell to Crystal Lake Central in a penalty kick shoot out last year. After the tough battle, Crystal Lake Central went on to win the state championship in 2024.
The Scouts are feeling optimistic about their chances for success this season.
“It’s going to be challenging, but I have faith in our team this year that with the motivation we have we are going to get far,” said Auriol.
The Scouts are narrowing in on key areas of improvement in order to accomplish their ambitions.
“One of our goals is to practice penalty kicks a ton so if we do end up in a shootout in an important game, it won’t be how we lose,” said senior captain Ava Walsh.
Under new leadership, the captains are homing in on the importance of teamwork and determination as they believe it is the key to success.
“My role on the team is to make it a positive and encouraging environment, while holding each other accountable and being competitive,” senior captain Ryan Rice said.
With a new team in the making and new talent coming in, the returners are striving to take home a win this season.
“We have a great group of girls coming in and I think they are really going to bring it,” said senior captain Chloe Hvostik.
Amongst the new girls joining the program, senior Haylee Aranda-Rios is a standout player.
“I am really excited for Haylee to be a part of the team. She knows the game well and her skill is going to add another layer to our team,” said Auriol.
Haylee Aranda-Rios committed to Eastern Illinois University to play soccer back in August of 2024. In past years, her club soccer would interfere with highschool soccer tryouts preventing her from being on the team. After skipping a club soccer tournament, she is now eligible to be a part of the Lake Forest Girls Soccer team and is ready to make her mark.
“I am looking forward to playing with my friends and being able to represent my school,” said Aranda-Rios.
