Rex Morrison
During the fall play, One Stoplight Town, sophomore Rex Morrison heard that people were bringing snacks backstage. The next day, he brought in bags of chips, crackers, and candy, even though most people only brought in one thing. When he student-directed the winter show, Babette’s Feast, he brought in a new warmup game every rehearsal, even though most student directors use the same game throughout the whole process.
While this may seem like an unusual amount of effort, this is standard for Morrison.
“He always sets himself up for so much success, but he also wants that success for everyone else,” senior Millie Foley said. “He’s so on top of every little thing, and he made the winter show so much easier.”
While Morrison was no stranger to the stage, this year was his first time student directing. The winter play posed a particular challenge; Babette’s Feast had a musical element to it. Without being asked, Morrison found all of the needed sheet music and backing tracks to the songs.
“Rex was easily one of the most helpful directors that I have ever worked with,” senior Nora Sharman said. “He truly went above and beyond the job description. He demonstrates such unwavering support for the LFHS theater community.”
Morrison’s talent in theater may have something to do with his infectious personality offstage.
“The first I hung out with him was after a tech day for the Talent Show. We hung out for so long because he’s such an easy person to talk to. We literally ended up talking for hours,” freshman Blake Spezzano said.
Morrison’s friendship doesn’t just come with talking. He goes out of his way to do things for his friends. Earlier this week, at rehearsal for the musical, Cinderella, he left and brought McDonalds back for the cast when he wasn’t needed for an hour. Like always, Morrison does the most.
“He is the funniest person I’ve ever met. I love him so much. He’s one of my favorite people of all time,” sophomore Nico Caputo said. “He makes everything better the second he enters the room.”
Katie Lynch
Freshman Katie Lynch is known for her outgoing nature, witty humor, and ability to bring people together. She has the unique talent of seeing the positive in just about every situation.
If you ever have a chance to talk to Katie, you’ll quickly realize the effort she puts in to make every person feel heard and important.
“Katie can talk to anybody. I can think back to the first weeks of high school when my friends and I were nervous to go to such a big school, but not Katie. She was able to make new friends quickly by telling a funny story or making the whole class laugh.” said freshman Brooke Busam. “Katie is one of my closest friends, and seems to have a new hobby every week, which I admire. She is never scared to try something new.”
This year Katie has used her fearless personality to try multiple new sports, including tennis and soccer. She has joined new clubs and tried new hobbies. Most recently, she has picked up guitar. With a dream of entertaining a crowd, Katie has been dedicated to learning her friends’ favorite songs.
Her passion and commitment to her goals does not go unnoticed to her friends and family. Katie’s older sister Claire has seen how people gravitate towards Katie due to her charismatic, bubbly, and vibrant personality. Katie is a friend and sister that everyone would want by their side: empathetic and loyal.
“Katie is the one to put a smile on your face! I have seen how Katie uplifts a room with her humor. If I’ve had a hard day, I count on her to come into my room and make me feel better,” Claire said. “Not only is Katie creative and always up-to-date on current trends, but she is truly the most kind-hearted, outgoing person I know. It’s unbelievable how she is always able to see the good in every situation!”
Mr. Aronson
Known for his sense of humor, supportive teaching style, and passion for computer science, Mr. Aronson is appreciated and respected by his students.
His classroom is more than just a place to learn, it’s a space that doesn’t feel like the typical classroom. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by walls covered in memes from current and former students. He also starts with a daily fun cryptic video that reflects what will be taught in class.
The learning environment he has built looks and sounds odd, but every student would agree it is one of a kind. Everything about the classroom feels more personal and less about pushing an academic agenda.
What truly sets Mr. Aronson apart is his passion for teaching and helping the students. “Mr. Aronson is always looking out for the understanding of content by every student,” said Mrs. Lemke. “He cares about ideas a lot. What he knows, he really wants you to know too.
Mr. Aronson also values his commitment to his student success. There’s no such thing as an F in his class. He goes out of his way to offer extra points on tests and assignments to ensure every student has the chance to show their true knowledge of the topic.
“He is always willing to help with assignments and work one on one with you to make sure you understand the material,” said four-year student Nastia Belova. “I think that’s one of his best qualities as a teacher because it really makes you feel like you are able to do any of the work in computer science, which can definitely sometimes be challenging.”
For those willing to put in the effort, he’s always there to help with projects or guide them through complex topics.
“Mr. Aronson has always treated his students in a different way; he allows for more independence and the class is taught with more of a real life application and feels less like a school room” said third year student Neel Wadhera.
Jack Douglass
No matter where you are, you will know if junior Jack Douglass is nearby. Whether he’s on the golf course or in the classroom, he will be spreading positivity to anyone he can.
When Jack isn’t cracking jokes in the classroom, he can be seen putting his full effort into the work in front of him.
“I think he’s really committed,” junior Charlie Melin said. “He’s in my business incubator group, and he is always working hard for the things he cares about.”
This work ethic translates to success on the golf course too.
“He has a really good work ethic,” junior Dylan Chlystek said. “He’s always out on the course.”
Because of Jack’s dedication and great work ethic, he has been on the Varsity Golf team since his sophomore year. His dedication shows as he has excelled on the golf team any chance he gets.
Whenever there is something that Jack truly cares about, he shows extreme dedication to it. Not only can this be seen with sports, academics but also his faith
Jack often attends Christ Church in Lake Forest twice a week.
With such a busy schedule filled with school, golf, and church, Jack still finds a way to make time for his friends and family who seem truly lucky to be a part of his life.
Max Regner
Senior Max Regner is not only passionate about baseball, volleyball, and fishing, but he’s also an amazingly loyal friend and is guaranteed to put a smile on students’ faces.
“What I like about Max is that he is a good guy to be around, and he can help with homework in classes,” senior Logan Marquez said.
The friendship between Max and Logan is truly special. They enjoy eating together, playing games together, and talking with each other, and wherever one of them is, you will likely see the other by their side.
“What makes Max such a good friend is that he is there for you when you need someone,” Marquez said.
Max is enrolled in a speech class and is a star in it.
“Max brings a lot of energy and humor to our speech class. He never fails to entertain us and put a smile on our faces,” senior Boden Rupperecht said.
Max has a great sense of humor and has the power to turn someone’s bad day into a great one just by being in his presence.
“He’s extremely passionate during speeches and makes class very fun,” senior Johnny Burden said.
After graduating LFHS, Max has plans on going to college and studying the animal population and their behaviors.
