On Friday night, the Lake Forest Varsity Men’s Basketball team (15-7, 6-3) took down the Lake Zurich Bears (10-13, 3-6) with a final score of 43-34. Senior Hudson Scroggins led the team with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Luke Sawant added 10 points of his own.
The Scouts held a small lead throughout nearly the whole game, only giving it away once. Lake Zurich led 24-23 for one possession, and then it was all Scouts from then on. The Scouts’ defense was the main reason for this victory, only allowing 34 points in 32 minutes of play. Senior Grant Mordini had the loudest two points of the night as he dunked on a Bears defender. Mordini’s dunk had the gym rocking and got ScoutNation fired up.
The Scouts always play a tough brand of defense, but Friday night seemed to have a different intensity. When the Scouts play as sound on the defensive side of the ball as they did against Lake Zurich, they are a very tough team to beat. The Scouts, on average, are allowing only 42.2 points a game. This number leads the North Suburban Conference in opponents points per game, with Lake Zurich being the next closest with 49; a 6.8 point difference. To complement their exceptional defense, there are a lot of guys who can score the basketball at a high efficiency. And with junior guard Dominic Mordini returning in the near future, the Scouts will be regaining another offensive threat.
Lake Forest returns to action Tuesday night at Stevenson High School where they look to even the season series. The Scouts feel like they should have won the previous matchup and are dying for another chance at the Patriots.
