New Traditions: Winter Pep Rally

New Traditions: Winter Pep Rally

Football season has ended, and the cold weather is kicking in. Students’ smiles have faded–or at least have been covered by the endless amounts and homework that seems to pile up during these frigid winter months. Winter Formal is around the corner, but instead of enjoying this exciting school event, many students see it as a grocery list item to check off before leaving for the long-awaited spring break.

Not this year.

Student Council, specifically the junior class, has been working to find fun ways to pull LFHS out of the annual winter “slump” many students fall victim to. Student Council is hopeful that a winter pep rally will do just the trick.

“It’s winter time, and there’s not much happening, so that was our biggest motivation,” Student Council Advisor Mrs. Konz said. “We wanted to build up this whole week and make it a celebration for the Scouts.”

While most of the activities remain a surprise, Student Council is busy working behind the scenes in order to execute the afternoon flawlessly.

“We are in the depths of organizing how everything will play out. We have to connect with many different winter teams/activities, faculty and students to prepare,” Junior Class President Josie Irvin said.

Although the winter pep rally will differ from the Homecoming pep rally, Student Council has worked to create new games to specifically highlight winter activities, such as intramural basketball. The pep rally will also highlight the music and theatre departments, and include more staff participation.

“We are trying to make this pep rally as different as we can from the fall pep rally because we want the school to be able to experience something new and enjoyable during a slow part of the year,” Irvin said. “Students can expect to engage in fun activities, and get pumped up for the basketball game that night.”

Many LFHS students look forward to Friday as they are in desperate need of a break from class.

“I feel like this is the time of year everyone falls into a slump, so I’m really excited for the winter pep rally and I hope it gives everyone something to look forward to. It’s also a good way to spread school spirit throughout the winter,” senior Ryan Rice said.

The pep rally will be followed by a Varsity Basketball game Friday night against Warren at 7 p.m. Make sure to come participate in all these exciting LFHS events.
