The Lake Forest Varsity Basketball Team (12-7, 3-3) traveled to Glenbrook South last Saturday to play Rockford Auburn High School (12-8, 8-1) in the Clash of the Titans shootout. The Scouts pulled out the close win by a score of 60-55. After losing to Mudelein the night prior, the Scouts sought to get back in the win column, as well as build momentum before this week’s games.
The Scouts came out the gate firing as sophomore Rory Haas knocked down three threes in the first quarter. Each team traded shots throughout the first half, but Lake Forest entered halftime with a five-point lead after senior Luke Sawant hit a buzzer-beating three.
The Scouts controlled the second half and never gave the lead back, increasing their margin to ten at one point. Senior Hudson Scroggins was the leading scorer for the Scouts with 29 points, and senior Grant Mordini had 12 of his own. Senior Charlie Markee was finding his teammates as he finished with seven assists.
With a nice win over a solid opponent, the Scouts appear to be back playing their style of basketball. Although Scroggins’ contributions have been critical, every game appears to be more and more of a team effort. Each player, up and down the lineup, is making plays for the Scouts. In order to win upcoming conference games, the style of team basketball that was seen on Saturday will be required. But as of now, the Scouts seem to be improving with each game.
Lake Forest is back in action this Friday at home against Warren for the Turnabout game. The Scouts hope to even out the season series after losing the first game by 14.
