The Lake Forest Boys Varsity Basketball Team (12-7, 3-3) faced off against Vernon Hills (11-11, 3-3) on Tuesday, Jan. 21st.
The Scouts took care of business in an eight point win, 46-38. The Cougars went on a late run to make the score a bit closer, but the sharpness of the Scouts offense tonight never gave them much of a chance down the line. Senior Hudson Scroggins led the squad with 13 points and senior Finn Graf added 12 of his own. The Scouts were missing two key starters, starting guard Dominic Mordini and senior center Grant Mordini.
After trailing 6-2 early in the game, Lake Forest quickly retook control. The Scouts led by 8-12 points throughout the majority of the game. With the absences of two starters, sophomore Rory Haas got the start along with senior guard Luke Sawant. Both stepped into their roles very nicely with good defense and excellent ball security. Another guy who saw more minutes than usual was junior Burke Konz. Konz came off the bench and created havoc for the other team while adding five points, three of which coming from a big three pointer.
“A lot of guys stepped up tonight in a huge way and helped us get a good win before Warren on Friday,” said Scroggins.
The Scouts have a huge conference game this Friday against the Warren Blue Devils. The Scouts dropped a tough game to the Blue Devils earlier in the season on the road. The Scouts have gained much experience as a team since then, so Friday night at 7 P.M. in the comp gym should be a battle between two elite squads.
