Hannah Halabi is the epitome of a hardworking student-athlete. As a freshman, Halabi qualified and competed at the state level to represent the Girls Varsity Tennis team this past fall. Off the court, Halabi takes many difficult classes and has to balance her academics with her busy tennis schedule.
When did you first start playing tennis?
“When I was only about five years old.”
What made you want to go all in for tennis?
“When I was around eleven, I was playing two sports at the time. I decided I wanted to be more serious about tennis because it challenged me more, and I like being challenged.”
How did you feel going into your first high school tennis season?
“At first, I was scared about meeting new people. But when I got to know everyone on the team, I realized there was nothing to be worried about.”
What were your goals for the season?
“I wanted to make it to state and meet new people.”
What did you think of your state performance?
“It was not what I was hoping for, but it was still a nice experience.”
What is a typical day in your life like?
“On a block day, I play tennis in the morning from 7 to 8. Then, I go to school, but leave my last period to play tennis from 2:30 to 4:30. Afterwards, I lift with my trainer from 6 to 7.”
How do you balance school and tennis?
“At first, it was a struggle, but eventually I got better at managing my time. Now, I always prioritize my academics.”
What was your favorite memory from the high school season?
“The bus rides going to away matches were really fun because everyone was really energetic and pumped up.”
What are you looking forward to for your upcoming season?
“I’m looking forward to just being with my friends again and having a good time!”
