As the first semester comes to a close, finals are approaching this upcoming week. Finals week is a stressful time for everyone, and the keys to preparing for your exams is to find peace, study, and stay positive. Everyone studies differently and thrives in different learning environments; some enjoy quiet, while others prefer studying in a busy cafe. Here’s our list of the best places to study for finals week.
Lake Forest College
The college library is located in the heart of Lake Forest on Sheridan Road near town, making it an attractive spot to study. Its enormous size and countless desks ensure a good study environment, always offering somewhere to sit. The college even provides staff to help you study as well as printers, a cafe, and private rooms for individual and collaborative work. It’s also a great space for late-night studies as it closes at 11:00 P.M. most nights. While this is a great spot to study, it does have some shortcomings: it’s closed during second-semester finals and is a very popular spot among college and high school students, making it a louder environment with a lot of commotion.
Lake Forest Library
Lake Forest Library sits next to town on Deerpath Road. Its beautiful architecture and
quiet, cozy environment makes it a prime spot to study for your finals. The library hosts multiple different study rooms, each with its own ambiance, giving students a choice on where they think they study best. The library has media rooms, business rooms, and printers, giving you all the resources you need for success. Lake Forest Library is open 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. from Monday to Thursday, but keep in mind that it closes early from Friday to Sunday at 5 P.M.
Starbucks
The Starbucks on Western Avenue in town is another highly popular spot to study for your exams due to its pleasant atmosphere. It provides free wifi and many comfortable seating arrangements that are perfect for individual and group work. Plus, it makes it easy to grab a quick snack or a coffee, allowing you to stay focused and energized throughout long study sessions. The store closes at 8:00 P.M. and can get pretty busy which is something to look out for if you are worried about distractions.
High school Library
The library within LFHS is an excellent choice for those who want to study during the school day. Its location in the middle of the school means you will have no problem finding friends to study with. The library also has plenty of individual study spots to accommodate those who prefer working alone. The library is also equipped with all of the resources you need to prepare for exams; not to mention, your teachers are only a hop, skip, or jump away if you ever need extra help. The only drawback is that it closes at 4:00 P.M., making it less ideal for students who get their studying done later in the day.
Publick room
The Publick room is situated right in the middle of LFHS on the second floor. It’s considered one of the nicest rooms in the high school and a quiet space for studying, reading, and more. It’s a great place to study during school hours because it’s smaller and quieter than the library, and because it’s within close proximity of resource centers such as the MRC and SRC. Like with the rest of the school, it closes at 4:00 P.M. and is not ideal for after-school studying.
