Are you looking for a way to warm up your Friday mornings during these cold December days?
Great news!
Melt all of your worries away because LFHS’s annual Hot Cocoa Fridays are back!
At 7:30 a.m. on Friday, you can stop by the commons for a cup of hot chocolate to warm up your day.
You may be wondering… who is the hero behind giving students free tasty treats?
“I started the event about 4 years ago. I brought the idea from my previous school, where the students really appreciated it on cold December mornings,” said Dr. Sassen.
As an immediate success, the Hot Cocoa Fridays have continued every year since.
The goal of this event is to unify the school in a lighthearted manner that will allow students to sweeten up their day.
This event even highlights our very own Madrigals, a holiday choral group, as they perform holiday songs on Hot Cocoa Fridays.
“We first go to the senior star before moving to the commons,” said senior Declan Boyle, “we bring holiday cheer through song!”
This performance is vital to making this event special.
“With our student performing groups creating an inviting atmosphere, staff greeting students and offering them hot chocolate and donut holes, we just enjoy seeing the looks on their faces, hearing how appreciative they are, and starting their days off on the right foot,” said Dr. Sassen.
However, there is more to this event than just donut holes and marshmallows.
There are many people who play vital roles in making this event successful, including Mr. Jay Herr in food services, Mrs. Mel Walsh, the student performers in choir and band, the staff who serve our students, and the efforts of our maintenance staff.
Collectively, these aspects stir up the smiles of all students as they walk through the front doors on Friday mornings.
“It’s a fun way to see my friends in the morning,” said senior Kylie Dugan. “It tastes good and gets me pumped up for the day.”
Don’t be a Grinch and come to the last hot cocoa on Friday on December 13th!
