Every year during the holidays, my family gets an advent calendar. Whether the calendar has surprises for 12 or 24 days, they give me something to look forward to everyday.
Many people think that advent calendars only come with gifts or candy, but they can also be a fun activity. Last year, I got a puzzle-themed advent calendar. Every day, there was one section of a Christmas-themed puzzle that was quick and fun to make. An upside to these activity calendars is that you can continue to do them year after year if you’d like too, since it isn’t something disposable like candy. Amazon has plenty of puzzle calendar options with the themes from dogs to homes, cities, food, and more. At the end, it’s very fulfilling and fun to finally see the puzzle complete.
This year, the puzzle advent calendar is making a return in my household. Once I finish getting ready for the day, the first thing I do when I’m downstairs is complete the day’s section of the puzzle.
The advent calendars aren’t only for me, though. Barkbox brought back their popular dog advent calendar this year, available at Costco. After only a few days, my dog learned what it was and now knows that everyday she’ll get something. The treats are fairly large and Christmas themed in the shape and design of snowflakes, gingerbread men, wreaths, and Christmas trees. The toys are all super cute and based off of popular Christmas decorations and treats.
Plenty of popular companies make advent calendars, too. Ulta Beauty and Sephora both make makeup calendars. LEGO, Needoh, and American Eagle are other examples of companies that make calendars as well. These calendars tend to be on the pricier side, but don’t feel pressured to buy an expensive one. Stores like Five Below and Michael’s sell cheap advent calendars with things like candy and skincare. There’s a variety of more niche advent calendars, too, like ones full with ramen noodles, tea, and blind boxes. There’s truly an calendar for everyone.
If you celebrate Christmas, you should definitely consider getting an advent calendar. It’s not too late to get one, either; there are plenty of different calendars all over the internet and in stores for you to purchase. 12-day advent calendars don’t start until Dec. 12th so, if you feel it’s too late for a 24-day one, you have another option. Again, there’s truly an advent calendar for everyone, and they can be a great way to make everyday during December a little more fun.
