Ally Lucania
Senior Ally Lucania’s kind and caring spirit make her an easy pick for a Friday Five.
“Ally is such a supportive friend and teammate; she constantly goes above and beyond for those around her,” teammate and friend senior Heidi Moebius said.
Beyond being an amazing individual, Ally is also a passionate supporter of the Scouts. As the varsity cheer captain since her sophomore year, she leads with energy and enthusiasm, always encouraging her teammates and school spirit.
“She constantly pushes herself and others at practice to set an example for the underclassmen on the team. She holds everyone accountable and to high standards, knowing they can do anything they set their minds to,” teammate senior Hannah Conley said.
Whether she is on the sideline, competing at a cheer competition, or in the classroom she is a role model for younger athletes and students. Not only does she have a positive influence on her teammates, but she motivates them to always perform to their best abilities.
It’s the support she offers to her teammates that truly sets her apart as a leader.
“Ally’s always so supportive no matter what. She’s always there to motivate and support me at practice and with anything outside of practice too. Even if she’s having a bad day her attitude in and outside of cheer is always so positive,” senior Amelia Pasquesi said.
From making varsity as a freshman, there comes great responsibility. Ally has shown tremendous strength in her tumbling, jumps, and stunts. You might have witnessed her remarkable abilities in this year’s annual pep rally. Beautifully performing her “Arabian through to full” this skill is a show stopper and definitely has that “wow” effect.
Ally is not only recognized by her team as an amazing athlete but also by the state. As a sophomore and a junior, she was named to and earned a spot on the IHCCO All-State Medium Division Team for her outstanding cheerleading.
Maeve Farrell
Maeve Farrell is the definition of a student-athlete. She is unstoppable on the field and in the classroom. Once her mind is set to a goal she has no problem accomplishing it.
Maeve is a two sport varsity athlete. She made the varsity field hockey team as a sophomore and was a captain this past season. She has been on varsity lacrosse since her freshmen year and a captain as a junior and for this upcoming season.
“Maeve sees the game unfold in real time and then is able to react immediately because of the work she does while no one is watching,” said field hockey and lacrosse Coach Cat.
While Maeve is also crushing it on the field she remains very involved with clubs and organizations. Since the beginning of high school, academically, she strives to challenge herself.
“She sets very high expectations for herself academically and extracurricularly. She works extremely hard and is very responsible,” said her school counslor Mrs. Stetson.
Farrell’s work ethic is unmatched and has helped her both academically and athetically. Some would say she thrives when she is busy.
“She is the hardest worker I know, at practice she is always pushing everyone while also pushing herself. Then after all of that hard work she continues to go home and spend hours studying,” said close friend and teammate Lulu Keil.
The commitment she has for her teammates and herself is truly outstanding and shows how motivated she is to be the exceptional athlete and student she very much so is.
Jack Bruhn
Sophomore Jack Bruhn is a truly special student, notorious for his ridiculous sense of humor and numerous achievements in athletics and academics. His rigorous course load and good character have earned him a reputation as a premiere Lake Forest High School student.
For many, the task of playing two varsity sports in the same season while balancing countless honors and advanced placement classes may sound impossible, but not for Bruhn. Jack puts the impossible in a bowl with some milk and eats it for breakfast like Wheaties.
“The way he elegantly dashes around the squash court is enough to make a grown man cry. But he’s more than just a great player, he is arguably an even better teammate,” T.C. Weninger said.
Jack is a key player on the varsity squash team. His deep understanding of the game coupled with his undeniable length makes him a force to be reckoned with . Not only is he a standout squash player, but he also participates in the Varsity volleyball team.
Not only is Bruhn beloved by his teammates for his leadership and skills, but he is also known to be a compassionate and supportive friend.
“Jack is a great kid and a very funny guy. He never fails to put a smile on my face when I see him strutting through the school hallways,” sophomore Bobby Rolek said.
Dr. Ryan Abrams
Dr. Abrams, also known as “Doc” or “Cut Throat”, might be the coolest and most passionate teacher in the school. If Doc isn’t grinding video games or spending time with his family, you would most likely find him helping students out with chemistry or teaching them words of wisdom.
Doc isn’t your typical chemistry teacher. He never fails to make his class interesting and most students look forward to going to his class because of his humorous teaching style and consistent interaction with the students whether it’s telling stories or sharing his wise advice.
“I would actually be excited to see Doc everyday because it was always something new with him,” said senior Jack Walsh, a former member of Doc’s chemistry class. “ He would also make us more mature and teach us more then just chemistry it would be life skills too, and the best part about him is he treated us all like adults.”
Doc has helped out with the E-Sports team at LFHS the past two years and his nickname “Cut Throat” originated from the team. He decided to step away from the E-Sports team to help volunteer with the wrestling team again this year for the first time in 15 years.
Not only does Doc like to have fun in class, he is also very caring for all his students and wants everyone to do well no matter the circumstances.
“I never knew who Doc was, and I don’t think he even knew who I was but I was struggling in chemistry my sophomore year, so I was sent to him for help even though he wasn’t my teacher,” said senior Patrick Nevin. “He consistently worked his schedule around to find times to help me throughout the semester.”
Mr. Sheridan
Running late to first period is always a drag; however, I’ve learned there is one thing that brings me to a better state of mind in those stressful moments: the echoing sounds of the voice from a teacher who so clearly loves what he does.
Mr. Sheridan has taught a variety of business and advertising classes throughout his 9 years here at LFHS.
Students appreciate his unique ability to bring life and laughter to the classroom.
Staying engaged in Mr. Sheridan’s class is easy because if you don’t, you may miss all of the fun details of what makes him who he is.
Mr. Sheridan is also someone who has mastered the formula for work-life balance. Outside of school, he spends his time rehearsing and performing as a guitarist in the the band Oh Yes!
