As Mrs. Jensen wraps up her final semester of substituting PSG for Mr. Mocogni, students are sad to see her leave. She will be missed most because of the productive environment she creates in her classroom and because she is always willing to make time to support her students.
Ever since elementary school Mrs. Jensen knew she wanted to be a teacher. It wasn’t until college that she knew she wanted to major in math. Mrs. Jensen got her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and her masters in Science of Teaching Mathematics. She began working at LFHS in 1984 and officially retired in 2016. After retiring, she knew she wanted to come back as a substitute.
“I enjoyed teaching and I loved all the people in the math department,” said Jensen. “I’m familiar with the routine of school, so I can easily adapt to any minor changes made since I taught.”
Mrs. Jensen makes the most out of class time by introducing group activities that not only help students practice their skills, but also help them collaborate well as a cohesive class. She also gives time at the end of class to spend individually helping students.
Along with being adored by her students, Mrs.Jensen is greatly admired by her colleagues for her collaborative attitude and her kind, genuine spirit at LFHS.
“She is someone who always asks about your emotional well-being and is such a caring individual,” said fellow math teacher Mrs. Logas. “She is always coming up with new ideas, strategies, and math problems before I even ask for it. We’re always on the same page.”
Outside of school, Mrs.Jensen enjoys traveling and visiting her family, something she is eagerly looking forward to once the first semester is over.
“This past semester has been great! Thinking about all the different students and teachers I’ve worked with is one of my best memories, especially creating lesson plans alongside Mrs.Logas,” Mrs.Jensen said.
While Mrs.Jensen doesn’t know when she’ll be back, she hopes it will be fairly soon!
