After a loss against Stevenson High School last Friday, the Lake Forest Varsity Football Team will hope to bounce back with a home game this Thursday against Waukegan High School.
With an impressive start to the season, fans were optimistic that the team would maintain their undefeated record. However, the Scouts are experiencing a slump after their loss against Lake Zurich.
It only took one play to get things going as RB Marty Hippel returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to give the Scouts an early 7-0 lead. After only one play, it seemed like the Scouts had recovered from their loss the week prior. But a methodical 10-play drive from the Patriots tied the game at seven. After a back-and-forth half between the two teams, the Scouts had a 21-14 lead thanks to WR Charlie Markee’s toe-drag touchdown and QB Danny Van Camp’s 1-yard touchdown rush.
“It’s a game of momentum more than anything else,” Markee said. “We scored on the opening kickoff and had the momentum going into halftime. After that, they [Stevenson] took the momentum and kind of kept it for the rest of the game.”
What was shaping up to be a game that would come down to the wire did not turn out that way. The Scouts came out of halftime flat on both sides of the ball. The offense struggled to cap off drives, and the defense couldn’t keep the Patriots out of the end zone. Stevenson scored three unanswered touchdowns throughout the second half to defeat Lake Forest 35-21.
The Scouts hope to get back to their winning ways tonight against the Bulldogs.
