Parking at the school is one of the perks of being a senior at LFHS. But, every year, there is talk about the senior lot and the several changes Scouts want.
This year, though, there was a positive change to the lot. The addition of assigned parking spots was a great choice from the perspective of students. With assigned spots, parking is much easier and more convenient during busy school mornings. It also accomplishes the school’s goal of eliminating students without designated spots to park there— the consequence for those who don’t follow the rules is being towed or fined.
But, still, a lot of students without access to senior parking continue to express their frustration with having to park off-campus – either first, second, or sometimes both semesters – if they don’t receive senior parking.
Senior Ava Starks has expressed frustration because of the inconvenience of parking off-campus due to her dual sports, dive and gymnastics.
“My dive practice starts at 3:35 after school, and it’s so inconvenient to park at a house. Even if it’s a close house, it’s very frustrating because after practice, I don’t want to walk in the cold in a wet towel— especially in the upcoming cold months,” said Starks.
A lot of other seniors have expressed anger with underclassmen, especially juniors, parking in the senior lot. Senior Kaden Whiteside doesn’t have senior parking for the first semester. Whiteside parks at the train station and has to walk at least ten minutes every morning, consistently making him late to his early bird class.
“Every senior should be able to park there. Juniors shouldn’t be allowed to park there because it takes away spots from a lot of seniors who need it,” Whiteside told the Forest Scout.
Another downside to senior parking is the price. It’s a whopping $575 a semester which isn’t reasonable or affordable for all seniors. Other schools, like Woodlands Academy, only charges a fraction of the price: $150 a semester.
The consensus of the senior lot is: there should be enough parking spots for all seniors; it should be free or a fraction of the current price and only seniors should be allowed to park there. Senior Scouts, who have been waiting four long years to have this privilege, want a change!

Great job, M! and spot on. The senior lot should be a privilege for seniors only. No charge and a spot for every senior. Well done!
