To many students study hall might come off as a a boring place. However, Mrs. Laurie Hektor – LFHS senior study hall proctor – brings a touch of uniqueness.
One of the many things that make her job interesting are the students.
“I used to have a student that would stand on his head all the time. I would be returning emails and he would be standing on his head, I’m not sure why,” Mrs. Hektor said.
For six years, Mrs. Hektor has played a vital role in shaping senior’s experiences at Lake Forest High School.
“She is a very laid back person and lets seniors really enjoy their last year of study hall,” senior Thomas Upfold said.
Mrs Hektor arrives at 7:30 everyday and students are already up there relaxing and getting work done. Even from early in the morning, students enjoy sitting in senior study hall.
As study hall in the senior commons is specifically for seniors, her favorite parts are often seeing students develop throughout the year.
“I love seeing the seniors on their first day and watching them grow and change throughout the year up until the very last day,” she said.
One of the great things about the senior study hall is the shifts in energy. At one moment, it is quiet and peaceful making it a good place for work. Next, it will be an energetic and fun place for the seniors to gather and talk.
“I enjoy the busier vibe and I love the energy,” Mrs Hektor said. “It’s not just a study hall; it’s a space for all seniors. It’s neat to have them all come in here.”
Mrs Hektor always wants senior year to be “the best year” for all students. Valuing inclusivity, she said “I always want to treat them as equals, which makes the space so welcoming and enjoyable.”
Senior Haddie Deegan said Hektor is “understanding” in all circumstances.
“In any scenario she is always there to back you up. Also, she’s there to help and support all of us. I always feel comfortable talking to her.”
Mrs Hektor, always thinking of others, makes sure she can help students in every way possible.
“Everyone has their own things going on in their lives and if I can make their day a little easier, I will,” Hektor said.
