This year, many movies have been released and watched by millions of people. I myself love to watch movies whether it’s with family, friends or by myself. I enjoy cuddling up on the couch or having the experience of going to a movie theater to see a good film. So, to share my love for cinematography, here are my opinions on some of the new and best movies of 2024.
5. Inside Out 2:
The sequel to the famous Pixar movie Inside Out was earnestly a coming of age movie. This movie creatively demonstrated the different emotions that come with growing up.
In the first movie, there were “old” emotions like joy, sadness, disgust, fear and anger. In Inside Out 2, the additional emotions that were introduced were envy, boredom, embarrassment and, most known, anxiety. These new emotions shifted Riley’s, the protagonist, mind so sometimes her actions did not match her thoughts.
In my opinion, I enjoyed the first Inside Out better than this one mostly because it was less complicated. However, I feel for teenagers this movie is definitely more relatable. Overall the storyline was consistent and had little to no boring parts as if there was always something that kept me watching.
4. Tarot:
I’m sure by now everyone has heard about astrological signs including earth signs, water signs and fire signs. The movie Tarot was truly thrilling, making me scared of getting my sign read.
The movie follows a group of friends who find a deck of tarot cards and decide to see what everyone’s card says. The main character, Haily (played by actress Harriet Slater), decides to read everyone’s signs while unknowingly realizing that the deck of cards is cursed by the devil.
There was a mix of comedy in the horror that made the movie terrifyingly light-hearted. The demons that come out in the movie are very scary;there are creatures like a joker, a grim reaper, a crow man and, in my personal opinion, scariest of them all, a lady who became possessed. The jump scares are unexpected and make you leap out of your seat. If you are looking for a scary movie mixed with a laugh, Tarot is definitely for you.
3. Twisters:
This spin off of the 1996 film Twisters was remade into a thrilling movie. Starring a great cast, Twisters includes Lee Isaac Chung, Glen Powell and Daisy Edger-Jones.
This movie was generally very entertaining and had few boring parts. Twisters would appeal to anyone who likes both thrillers and a bit of action. The actors and the scenes are overall impressive, as well as Glen Powel being the plot as he is, by now, everyone’s celebrity crush. The movie almost makes me want to buy a truck and a cowboy hat and rangle some tornados.
Another amazing part of this movie is the soundtrack— one of the best I have heard. If you’re a country fan, you have to check it out. There are artists like Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, Tyler Childers, Meghan Moroney and, of course, Bailey Zimmerman. These artists made such a perfect soundtrack for each scene that I couldn’t ask for a better one. Overall, I enjoyed Twisters very much.
2. Dune: Part Two:
This movie was a very impressive work of art. When it came to the cast and crew, the actors and actresses did amazing. Actors like Denis Villeneuve, Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Florence Pugh made this movie an entertaining, mythic journey.
Dune: Part Two takes you through a story of warpath and revenge. The overall movie made 282.1 million dollars.
If you thought the first movie was good, this one definitely tops it. The mix of sci-fi and thriller makes the storyline very entertaining and makes you want to keep watching throughout the whole movie. I would say this is one of the best movies I’ve watched this year. If you are interested in fantasy and dystopia, Dune: Part Two would be a great movie to watch with both family and friends, or even after school.
1. Deadpool & Wolverine:
In the Marvel cinematic universe, Deadpool is a very popular component. It started in 2016 with the first Deadpool; two years later, the sequel came out. These movies are extremely funny but with a good mix of gore as well. After six years of waiting, movie number three has finally come out with a special guest: Wolverine. This movie was one of the best I’ve seen so far this year.
The storyline picks up many opponents from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) that make the movie unique and different from all the others. Actors like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman (Deadpool and Wolverine) truly play their parts perfectly. There were also special guests like Chris Evans and Channing Tatum that made up new, and brought back old, characters from the X-men series.
The action in this movie was entertaining and explored the fight between good and evil. Globally, Deadpool & Wolverine made $1.25 Billion dollars and sold out movie theaters around the world. Having the very big reputation and standards it has, this movie 100% met and maybe even set new expectations for more movies to come. Deadpool & Wolverine will definitely make you laugh; it is a great movie to watch with friends and family.
I hope that reading this helped you want to watch these movies and gives you a new perspective of the different films that were released. Overall, I think all these movies were unique and a good watch. I recommend them and hope you enjoy them as well.
