Emma Stadolnik

Position: Editor-in-Chief

School: Boston College

Major: Communications

Location: Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts

Mascot: Golden Eagles

How did you first hear about Boston College and what made you apply? I first heard about Boston College from friends and family. I decided to go on a visit the summer before senior year and loved the tight-knit atmosphere, the campus, and the proximity to Boston, which is why I decided to apply!

Why Boston College? Ultimately BC felt like a place I could really see myself thriving. When visiting, I felt like everyone there was extremely welcoming and seemed passionate about what they do. It felt like a place where I could immediately step onto campus and get involved. I also really enjoyed the idea of having a mid-size student population, having smaller class sizes, the opportunities provided by the surrounding area, and the prevalence of clubs on campus!

What are you most excited about? “I am excited to study more of what I am passionate about, live in a new part of the country, write for the BC newspaper, explore the city of Boston, and attend BC sports games!

Name: Bianca Storino

Bianca Storino.

Position: Editor-in-Chief

School: University of Notre Dame

Major: Finance

Location: South Bend, Indiana

Mascot: The Fighting Irish

How did you first hear about Notre Dame, and what made you apply? “I have grown up with Notre Dame being a prevalent aspect of my life. Most of my dad’s side of the family went there, including my dad and grandpa. I remember being on the 50-yard line during the Stanford game in 2012 with my dad and him hugging me when the Irish made their comeback in the pouring rain. Notre Dame holds some of my best childhood memories, and being on campus never fails to bring a smile to my face. It truly is my happy place.”

Why Notre Dame? “I was between Notre Dame and another school going into my senior year, but after my pre-college program in London through Notre Dame, I was convinced that Notre Dame was where I needed to end up. I always knew I wanted rigorous academics in college. Yet, I wanted an environment surrounded by students and teachers who wanted me to succeed, not an environment where everyone was constantly competing to be on top. After meeting other prospective students in my program, I quickly realized I wanted to be surrounded by people as kind as those in my pre-college program. Notre Dame felt like home in ways different from how it did when I was growing up.”

What are you most excited about? “I am most excited for the people, the football games, the new opportunities to come, and so much more!”

Why UMiami? “I chose UMiami because it offers great academics. I liked that it has a midsize student population, while also still having a lot of school spirit. I also loved the campus and surrounding suburb of the college.”

What are you most excited about? “Living so close to the beach, meeting new friends, and the warm weather!”

Notre Dame has a great academics, as well as amazing sports, and a huge alumni network.”

Why Notre Dame? “Notre Dame has a unique culture that is unlike any college I looked at. When I toured it, I instantly knew it was the right school for me- from the academics, to the variety of activities to do and the “family-like” culture. I knew that I could really see myself thriving there.”

What are you most excited about? “I am most excited about game days! Notre Dame has so many cool and unique traditions that I am so exited to be a part of.”

Name: Amani Yousuf

Amani Yousuf.

Position: Opinion Editor

School: Northwestern University

Major: Journalism and Economics

Location: Evanston, Illinois

Mascot: Wildcats

How did you first hear about Northwestern and what made you apply? “Growing up less than 30 minutes away, my “Purple Pride” was sparked from a very young age by my dad taking us on family walks around the campus. Northwestern’s appealing location combines the best of both worlds: a vibrant, lakeshore college town with excellent access to Chicago. However, I ultimately chose to apply after a gut feeling I got when I toured Northwestern on the fateful day of October 1, 2022!”

Why Northwestern?I’ve always loved Northwestern, but when it came down to making the final decision, I was all in with Northwestern because of how passionate I am about double majoring in Journalism and Economics. Unfortunately, with disinformation at an all-time high, many believe traditional journalism is dying. However, my time as The Forest Scout’s Opinion Editor has taught me how accurate, authentic, and informative reporting is the best weapon against it. The Medill School of Journalism will prepare me well for a myriad of careers post-graduation.”

What are you most excited about? I’ve made some amazing friends at LFHS, which has made me realize the kind of people I mesh well with. As a place with so much school pride, phenomenal academics, and fun social life, I’m most excited for the relationships I’m going to build with people at Northwestern. GO CATS!”

How did you first hear about UMiami, and what made you apply? “UMiami was originally my best friend’s dream school and she wanted to visit so I came along with her a month before college applications were due. Before we went to visit, it wasn’t even a school that I had thought about, let alone on my college list. When we were there I ended up loving the campus so I did some more research on the school and thought it was a great fit so I ended up applying. I also applied because I knew I wanted to be far from home but still in the country and I wanted to be in an environment that fit my personality!”

Why UMiami?  “I chose UMiami because I wanted to be far from home and also be able to tan with it being summer year-round! It’s also overall a great school for what I want to do and I love that it’s located in a very diverse location! I also really like that it’s a medium-sized school so I don’t feel like I’ll get lost on campus or bombarded with an absurd amount of students.”

What are you most excited about? “I’m most excited to go to the beach, meet new people, and live in such a beautiful environment! I’m also excited to live in a big city with so many things to do.”

Why Ithaca? “Ithaca is so pretty and overlooks lakes on a big hill, and also has a nice college town. The alumni from Ithaca are all working out in the theater industry, which was a thing that I really wanted to see. Ithaca has everything I could want, and it feels like the place that I would fit into the best.”

What are you most excited about? The outdoors! I want to go hiking around Ithaca and see all of the gorges and waterfalls. I’m also just excited to make some new friends!”

Colin Peters.

Position: Sports Editor

School: Oklahoma State University

Major: Sports Media

How did you first hear about Oklahoma State, and what made you apply? “I was looking into schools that have highly rated sports media programs. My mom is from Oklahoma and has always spoken about both Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State.”

Why Oklahoma State? “Oklahoma State was the perfect distance from home and I enjoyed the thought of staying in the Midwest. Sports is a major aspect of Oklahoma State and was a very important part of my decision due to my major. I have family that lives in Tulsa which is about an hour away from campus which was another large part of my decision.  When I was on my way to visit, the Athletics department opened applications for the creative team which is responsible for any media involving OSU athletics. I instantly applied and was accepted into the first part of the process.”

What are you most excited about? “Oklahoma State has a beautiful campus and has people from all walks of life. I’m excited in meeting these people and working within OSU athletics where I can further my career.”
