This week LFHS is working with North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) food pantry in a Cereal Domino Challenge to inspire the students to help those in the surrounding area.
NCCP is an organization that has worked since 2008 to support and give equal opportunity to kids in need, throughout much of North Chicago.
This is not the first time that our school has lent a helping hand to the food pantry. Earlier in the school year, the junior class sponsored a successful canned food drive through a friendly competition within the English class to see who could receive the most donations.
This week the junior class is sponsoring a ‘Cereal Box Domino Donation Challenge.’
‘Domino challenges’ are quickly spreading across the country to show support for certain causes. This successful domino challenge from Lake Murray Elementary School in Chapin, South Carolina, is a perfect example of what we are hoping to achieve.
To participate in the challenge, please bring in a box of cereal before May 2 and place it in one of the collection boxes, which can be found in the Front or Back Commons. If every person in the
building brings just one box of cereal, the food pantries shelves will be completely filled with more than 1,400 boxes.
Not only is this a quick and easy way to make an impact on the lives of many, but it will also be fun! On Thursday May, 2nd at 1:50pm there is going to be a domino challenge where the cereal boxes will be knocked down the stairs of the Senior Commons stairs.
The inspiration for this challenge comes from a DPM 5th grader Natalie White. White has plenty of experience with these as she has held two challenges of her own at Sheridan Elementary School.
White first decided to host a Dog Bones Domino Challenge, where every box of dog bones that she collected was donated to an animal shelter nearby.
Her successful first attempt urged her to complete a Cereal Domino Challenge, where she also donated to a food pantry nearby.
White has become a pro with the domino challenges, so on Thursday, White is going to be what we are calling the ‘Master of Ceremonies’ and she will kick over the very first box. We want to give her credit in bringing this new challenge to LFHS.
