The French Club is a group of people who come together to share and learn about authentic French culture and norms performed all throughout the world. The club holds a monthly meeting for all types of students, French or not, where they gather to eat French foods, learn about French traditions and even play French games. Each meeting is something new and the students look forward to celebrating these diverse French events every month!
“There is no minimum requirement to be a member and you don’t even have to speak French!” said French Club Sponsor Kristin Goodman. “Anyone who is interested in French culture is welcome to come!”
Many people will come to the club randomly whenever they have down time after school. It is not a requirement to come every month especially with busy sports schedules and outside of school activities.
Junior member Annie Gibbons says that she has gone to a couple French club meetings over the years, but every time she goes she says, “the club is always so fun, especially when we play French kahoots and it also has the best snacks!”
The club, like many others, has a strong leadership team to help plan all of the events. Goodman says that the club really focuses on “student leadership” and they even have an executive board full of students that have different roles in the club’s functioning.
“As president, I lead meetings, collaborate with students, and help create engaging and educational meetings for everyone involved,” said Club President Noel Demetrio. “Being a part of the French Club is a great chance to share your passion for the French language and culture while connecting with a variety of other students.”
The club has planned for their next monthly meeting to take place on March 7th. They will be hosting their annual French Cheese Tasting which is one of their most popular and well known events!
The Cheese Tasting starts with each member receiving a box of assorted French cheeses. The box consists of bree and blue cheese as well as a variety of crackers and some apples to enjoy with the cheese. They are each purchased from Fresh Market in Lake Forest and all members will bring $2 to cover their food.
At the meeting, Demetrio also says she loves “exploring the diverse flavors and textures of French cheese.” It is clear that this is not an event that anyone should miss!
After trying all of the cheeses, the members will each discuss their favorites and least favorite cheeses from the selections. The club spends the rest of the time sharing the history behind the French cheese they sampled and learning about interesting cheese facts that relate to French culture.
To participate in the exciting event, join the French club next Thursday after school in Mrs. Goodman’s room 30A. Don’t forget to bring $2 and a strong appetite for the scrumptious assortments of cheese!
