Mrs. Liuxuan Gao is a recent addition to the math resource center, and to LFHS. Since her start at LFHS, she has been a significant help to all students in search of math help in the math resource center, but there are many things that students still don’t know about her.
Gao is originally from Hong Kong, where she attended school until the age of 18. She then moved to America in the summer of 2014, and made a new home in Los Angeles.
Once she moved to America, she attended the University of Southern California, earning her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and her Master of Science in Finance both at USC. Subsequently, she pursued Ph.D. studies at Northwestern University. Unfortunately last summer, she had to withdraw from the program and obtained her second Master’s degree.
Gao learned about LFHS through a friend who was a graduate of LFHS. “The job is particularly intriguing as it allows me to interact with students from diverse backgrounds,” Gao said. She had always been interested in working at a high school, and LFHS seemed to check all her boxes.
Gao’s end goal for the future is to become a math teacher. With her passion for math and her love for teaching, it seems like the perfect goal to strive for.
Although she is passionate about math now, Gao was not always so fond of it. “I won’t claim to love math unequivocally, considering I’ve encountered even more ardent math enthusiasts. In truth, I never had a passionate love for math initially. However, my perspective changed when I realized its practical applications in my research, allowing me to build stronger models with enhanced predictability. So, my appreciation for math stems from its utility,” Gao said.
Much of Gao’s love for math has formed from outside influences, “Over time, I’ve been surrounded by people who are passionate about math, influencing me to embrace it more,” Gao said.
Gao’s dreams for the future is to pursue her love for math all while creating an inclusive environment full of laughter for all students, to nurture each and every student’s desire to excel at math.
