WINTER CLUB, LAKE FOREST — In a rainy and foggy Lake Forest Hockey Club Winter Classic hosted at Winter Club, the Scouts dominated the Highland Park Giants in an 8-1 blowout.
This was an emotionally driven game for players like assistant captain Murphy Moorhead, defensemen Logan Uihlein , and captain Michael Dhamer among other younger players. Many of them grew up playing for the Winter Club’s youth teams before entering the high school system.
The Scouts started off strong with a goal from Moorhead to set the tone. Highland Park would respond with their only goal of the night before being held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Senior defensemen Finn Avis would respond with a goal around two minutes later, The Scout’s defense would tally one more goal for the night from senior Michael Dhamer.
The offense would hit a new gear scoring five goals in the second period with contributions from seniors Andrew Marsch, Demetri Fallidas, Jackson Drum, and a pair from Zach Shoemaker. The Scouts would swap goaltenders with senior Teddy Huddleston heading in for fellow senior Andrew Sommers with seven minutes remaining in the second.
A penalty-ridden start to the third period brought the game to a standstill. The Giants would make the decision to sub out starting goalie Alfred Caplan for Vicnet Mena. This proved no help as the Scouts would score one more time before the clock hit zero.
All around this game would be one to remember for the returning Winter Club alumni. Many of the seniors spent extra time on the rink after the game enjoying their final moments on the ice.
