Week one of intramural basketball showed several promising teams who are ready to fight until the final tournament. Our top five teams this week showed a lot of dedication and hard work to finish with a victory.
- Shot City, 2-0
Coming in at the top seed this week is Shot City. After their opponent, The Wall, was a no-show to their game, they played the Sassy Shooters. Maeve Farrell and new member Lilly Stewart led the team with 8 points each, bringing the team to a 16-4 win against the Sassy Shooters. This team is hungry to come out on top this year, and with their strategic coach, Lulu Keil, and hardworking team, this season is looking bright for them.
2. Nationville, 1-0
Overall, Nationville played a great game on Sunday. They won 26-22 against the Backboard Breakers, with their strengths being in their rebounds and recovering the ball. This team is looking to work on their defense and lock down other teams in their future games.
3. Sneaker Squeakers, 1-0
The Sneaker Squeakers are looking promising this season, winning their first game 35-0 led by senior Katherine Malloy. Almost every member of the team scored during this game, showing a tremendous team effort, and their aggressive defense.
4. The Band, 1-0
The Band finished strong with a 19-9 win against Shooting Deez this week, led by Maria Kyriacou with 7 points. Feeling confident moving forward, this team is dedicated to getting practice time and strives to coordinate their playing style as a team.
5. Backboard Breakers, 1-1
The Backboard Breakers started their doubleheader with a tough loss against the co-ed team, Nationville, losing by a couple of points. However, they powered through and took the win during their second game against the Untouchables, winning 16-12. With their fast breaks and quick transitions, the Backboard Breakers are hopeful to succeed this year.
While the rest of the teams did not perform well last weekend, they are hopeful to keep working on their weaknesses and do better in the next round of games. This season is looking like a competitive one.
