The Varsity Girls’ basketball team is energized and motivated as they prepare to take on their rival, Libertyville, this Friday, 7:00 pm at LFHS.
“A strength we have is energy and motivation to win. Libertyville is always a rival team and this year we want it even more. Our team is very competitive and athletic, and when we have a lot of energy we end up on top,” said senior captain Sarah Constantine.
The Girls Varsity Basketball Team just recently played in the Vernon Hills Thanksgiving Tournament. They beat five other teams to win the tournament, effectively keeping their ten-year win streak at the Thanksgiving Tournament.
The team is using the big win to encourage them to succeed in their upcoming game against Libertyville.
“We are hoping that with the home court advantage that will help motivate us to stay strong throughout the whole game,” said senior guard Adah Bodine.
The team has been focused on keeping team discipline throughout the entirety of their game.
“It’s our ‘team word’ in huddles and time-outs. We are constantly reminding ourselves to have discipline on offensive plays and defense. When we forget about a mistake we just made in the last play or turnover, we play much better as a team,” said Constantine.
Leading up to the game on this Friday they have been watching film of Libertyville’s games and working on strengthening their teams’ defense and offense.
The Girls Basketball team has been especially focused on their defense this year.
“I would say that our team’s biggest strength is our defense and it is important, especially in this game that we focus on that,” said Bodine.
The team is certain that with enough preparation and energy, they will emerge from the rival game victorious.
“Playing Libertyville is always a good test for our team. They are a good team but we have been putting in a lot of work to prove them wrong. We know their strengths and have many strategies to limit their scoring,” said Constantine.
