Julie Crouch: sponsor of Scout Nation and the Junior Student Council and a very important teacher here in the English and Special Ed departments. All the roles she has taken on come with a lot of responsibility.
Crouch is new to Scout Nation – a club that focuses on fostering school spirit – this school year, replacing last year’s sponsor Mrs. Kristin Gregory. Her plans for Scout Nation this year are focused on fostering school spirit in all sports, not just football.
“I’m a super Scout so I’m super excited for this year,” said Crouch.
Crouch looks forward to every game. An event that stood out to her was “West Fest” which was on September 19th. West Fest is an event that highlights the Cross Country, Field Hockey, and Boys Soccer teams. There was Suzy’s Swirl for Field Hockey, Chick-fil-A for Cross Country, and sandwiches for Soccer, as food is known to drive student presence at sporting events.
Crouch hopes to plan future events to promote more teams to ensure that students show support for all sports at the high school.
The Pink Out Football game this year – a game that supports breast cancer awareness – is another event Crouch is looking forward to as it is the football team’s, dance team’s, cheer team’s, and Scout Nation’s senior night.
Not only is Crouch the backbone behind Scout Nation, but she is also the Junior Student Council sponsor. In this role, she takes a large part in planning prom: one of the biggest events at the high school.
Although facilitating school spirit is a large bulk of her job, she still fulfills many roles during class time, where she co-teaches an English class with Mrs. Carolyn Konz.
“We never become complacent. We push each other to try new things, learn new skills, teach new books, and reimagine ideas,” said Konz.
Crouch and Konz have known each other since they were in 4th grade which is why it is so easy for them to work well together.
Crouch is also a NET APEX coordinator, a program that helps students with extended periods of absences, extensive surgeries, mental health issues, and kids who need online classes.
“Being able to offer a safe space for kids in vulnerable positions in their lives is a great thing to do,” said Crouch.
Although a very active member of the LFHS community, Crouch also tries to enjoy herself when she gets some free time. She loves going to concerts, even if the performer is someone she’s never heard of. She also enjoys traveling, watching sports – including NASCAR – and enjoying really good food. When she does get some time, she likes to go on long walks with her dog and spend every second she has with her 6-year-old son Cal.
Although Crouch’s schedule at school and outside of school is extremely hectic, she still finds time before and after school for Scout Nation and Student Council because of how proud she is to be a Scout.
