Business Incubator: Pitch Preview

Tessa Poulton and Bianca Storino

The Business Incubator Program focuses on the early stages of the start-up process for up-and-coming student-run businesses. This honors-level junior course gives students opportunities to work with mentors, investors, and other business experts to build a company from the ground up. As May approaches, groups are preparing for their academic pitch to judges, which will determine whether or not they move forward to pitch night.

Jr Scouts Sports Camp:

Junior Scouts Sports Camp is filling the gap between having fun and preparing younger kids to play sports at a higher level. The sports camp is led by juniors Charlie Savage, Rocco Marsico, Murphy Moorhead, and Oscar Kokke, who all play multiple varsity sports at LFHS.

“We are all very passionate about our sports and have first-hand experience playing high-level sports, so we know what it takes to improve our skills. We will introduce your kids to new sports, and they’ll make new friends along the way,” junior Murphy Moorhead said. “Junior Scouts Sports Camp has come to life through our business incubator class. It’s given us the opportunity to make a business that we are very passionate about and hope others can enjoy also.”

Homework Haven:

Chloe York, John Nikitas, Clare Crawford, and Will Goodsir created the Homework Haven app that pulls homework assignments from Schoology and organizes them into a singular to-do list for students. The app will also send a daily text message to students with all their homework assignments for the night. It will also estimate how long those assignments will take so students can plan more effectively.

“Right now, we are working on developing our app and creating flyers and business cards to spread awareness of our brand. Our most recent accomplishment is presenting to the APT this week, where we got a lot of positive feedback from parents,” junior John Nikitas said.

GearTree:

Andrew Sommers, Jonathan Richmond, Andrew Marsch, and Reagan Collins developed the Gear Tree, a skeleton you insert into your sports gear to eliminate moisture, bacteria, and any bad odor from dirty sports gear after use from any sport. They set themselves apart from their competitors by incorporating their sponsor Fresh Wave’s desiccant technology, airflow, and adjustable size for all sports bags.

“We believe our company has the strengths and attributes to move onto pitch night, and we are very excited to see what is to come,” junior Andrew Sommers said.

UV-PC:

UV-PC, created by Will Quigley, Collin Sinclair, Lily Rosenberg, Chris Fallidas, and Andrea Constantine, provides a way to store devices while cleaning them with ultraviolet light technology in public bathrooms.

“We used money from our MVP to start constructing and implementing our MVP trial in women’s restrooms at LFHS and LFA. We installed white plastic shelves on bathroom walls that users can set their phones on,” junior Lily Rosenberg said. “We attached a flyer that quickly explains how the product is supposed to be used with a QR code that asks for feedback and collects data from our early adaptors.”

Data Drop:

Johnny Telos, Ian Pogany, Bryan Davis, Justin Schmit, and Antonio Emma created a product that will help anyone who wants to start drop shipping. Their company is called Data Drop and is a data collection company that tells drop shippers potentially selling items backed by real data. Besides that, they offer so much more, building their very own community of similar people, sharing tips with one another, and helping each other each step of the way

“Everyone wants to do it [dropshipping], but no one knows where to start; that’s where we drop in,” junior Ian Pogany said.

Safe Pantry:

Griffin Werner, Kirby Carlson, Annie Paige, John Quick, and Annie Page have created a product allowing everyone, including those with allergies, to enjoy vending machines. Safe Eats Pantry has created an allergen-free vending machine that will provide students with a healthy and allergen-free food option on the go. This group plans to create a vending machine organized into four different allergen types: Nut Free, Egg Free, Dairy Free, and Gluten Free. They also want to include a section that provides snacks that do not contain all these allergens.

“Our product will provide people with quick, healthy, on-the-go allergen-free snacks,” junior Griffin Werner said.

Super Alarm:

Logan Uihlein, Danielle Moore, Aiden Puthenveetil, and Yianni Koliatsis created a product that is an alarm clock that not only wakes you up but helps you get to sleep as well. Their alarm is no ordinary alarm clock; it has a diffuser with soothing smells and a speaker for soothing sounds. It also comes with a vibration extension that vibrates your mattress or pillow.

“If you want to tackle the day successfully, you need a super alarm,” junior Logan Uihlein said.

Freshbox UV:

Finn Avis, Connor Harling, John Strothman, and Adil Conjeevaram created Fresh Box. This product uses UV light to kill the bacteria that degrade food and makes it go bad. This UV light also kills pathogens like E. coli found on food items such as lettuce and keeps people safe from harmful bacteria.

“With the help of UVC light, Freshbox saves your family money by disinfecting your produce and extending its shelf life,” junior Connor Harling said.

Simple Sustainability:

Brent Stauffer, Hayden Shortsle, Courtney Fitzgerald, and Elise Raffiani developed Simple Sustainability. This company is a sustainable business that allows people to try out eco-friendly products without the hassle of ordering full-size products and doing research. Instead, Simple Sustainability does the research for you and gives users sample-size products, so they can try them out and then go back to their website and order the full-size products.

“It is for people who are busy and don’t have the time but still want to help the earth,” junior Brent Stauffer said.

Swift Spray Nails:

Sara Khater, Benjamin Merfeld, Ava Bleck, and Brandon Panagoplos developed a product that is an easy-to-apply, spray-on nail polish. This product comes with liquid latex to put around your nail, and all you have to do once the latex is on is spray the nail polish and come out with the perfect nails. They also provide alternative stencils used to create fun patterns on your nails to get the same designs you can get in a nail salon. Their product eliminates women’s struggles of getting their nails done conveniently and efficiently.

“This is the best possible product for women who enjoy having their nails done and want to look good, feel good, and succeed,” junior Ben Merfeld said.

H2FL0AT:

Mason Kelly, Ben Longeway, Ellery Schindler, and Lucy Partington developed a product for all water lovers, H2FL0AT. This product is the first-ever stretchable, floating phone cover. This prevents your phone from sinking into the water when dropped. It fits on any current smartphone and covers the charging ports to minimize water damage. This will allow for the water to not get into the phone since the charging ports make the phone most susceptible to water damage.

“Our team is working together great, and we are making good progress every class period,” junior Mason Kelly said.

Soluable:

Kyle Camardo, Teddy Huddlestun, Charlie Douglass, Jack Cushing developed a product that will help save the environment, one piece of bubble wrap at a time. This dissolvable Bubble Wrap is the first ever 100% sustainable and fully dissolving plastic wrap. Their company is focused on eliminating plastic waste and creating a greener planet.

“Our product is the first step to saving the environment,” junior Ky Camadro said.
