Blooming botanics

Isabelle Lisk, Staff Writer

That awkward time period between Winter and Spring can tend to feel dull and bland when you can’t think of anything to do during the bleak season. Fortunately, there is a limited time event to bring back some color and life to the gloomy month of March.

The Botanic Gardens in Glencoe, every year, hosts an orchid show that lasts from the end of February to the end of March.

They showcase unique types of orchids with various colors and patterns throughout intricately staged rooms and halls, along with two greenhouse rooms that are every plant or flower lover’s dream.

Even for those who are not as fascinated with botany, it is a relaxing activity to pass an hour or two to admire these delicate flowers or to talk with experts about the exhibit.

Tickets can be bought through their website at $19 per person, and parking is also available, which is $8.

This year’s Orchid Show closes after March 28, so be sure to get tickets now for a relaxing afternoon.
