Closet staples to brace the cold
Chicago winters are only getting colder, but that doesn’t mean we need to suffer. If you stock your closet with some of these live savers, you’re next miserable -5 degree walk might be a little warmer and a whole lot cuter
The Basics
Ok, it’s seven A.M., you check your phone and it’s below freezing. What should you throw on? Funny you should ask, because I have some great recommendations!
Say it with me, Fleece lined leggings. These Baleaf leggings from amazon may look like any other yoga pants, but the cozy fleece lining will leave your Lulu’s in the dust when it comes to staying warm.
While we’re on the topic of cozy pants, we have to address the beauty of these Yeokou sherpa joggers, whose fuzzy lining feels like you’re carrying a warm blanket with you.
Finally, to top off your outfit (no pun intended), the Free People Nantucket pullover comes in a variety of bright and fun colors. This warm fleece is the perfect pop of color to contrast with Chicago’s overwhelmingly gray color scheme.
The Accessories
A warm outfit can only protect you so much. Before stepping outside, you need your ears, neck, and hands covered. This fun Walmart metallic beanie makes a statement but can also be paired with just about anything.
Something about an oversized scarf just breathes an air of sophisticated elegance with minimal effort, while keeping you incredibly warm. I thought this ASOS dusty rose scarf was just adorable, but if you’re in need of a scarf and pink isn’t your color, not to fear. ASOS had pages of adorable instyle oversized scarfs worth checking out.
These C.C. Cheveux faux fur mittens are a must. From scraping ice off your windshield, holding your ice cube of a steering wheel, or walking a block to school, these gloves will stick with you.
Finishing touches
At this point, you might start feeling like a mummy getting suffocated in layers of fleece, but we’re almost done. And hey, you’ll be grateful for these layers as soon as you step out of the door.
Last year, the Orolay jacket took over the upper east side and soon trickled throughout the moms of the USA. Though nobody wants to wear the same jacket as their mom, this Orolay women’s down coat has fleece panels that make this model of the jacket the cool younger sister of the classic.
Finally these fur lined Doc Martin chelsea boots make it possible to wear your favorite shoe while still prioritizing warm toes. What not to love?
