Junior Kareem Alsikafi is the second youngest of five kids in his family. The older three graduated from LFHS; however, Kareem stands out from his siblings in many unique ways.

He is extremely resilient and persists through challenges whether they are in sports, school, or with others.

“He makes people around him better,” said junior Connell Sassen.

Kareem is a dedicated student who has been able to find the right balance between working hard in class and having a good time with his classmates.

“In class, he’s always very focused and cares about his quality of work, while still being able to crack jokes and have fun with friends,” said Sassen.

Kareem also has a great interest in sports. He is an avid fan of the New York Giants and enjoys playing and watching most sports. Kareem’s competitive drive in and out of school makes him an entertaining person to be around.

“When we were playing flag football, he was playing quarterback pretty well,” Sassen said. “I tried to take a couple reps from him, and he was joking about how I would throw an interception, and I proceeded to throw a ball directly to the other team.”

Kareem loves playing football during gym and outside of school, and is a unique player when you have him as a part of your team.

“He makes the games fun to play with his personality,” Sassen said.

While Kareem enjoys playing football with friends, he always has his focus on tennis. He has been a member of the varsity tennis team through his three years of high school and has contributed in many ways to the team.

“It was a 100-degree day, and it was both of ours’ sixth match of the day,” senior doubles teammate Tony Bosnjak said. “We both had each other’s backs and we had faith in each other, and that faith paid off in the end, and it was one of our best wins ever together.”

This win gave the Scouts the 4-3 win over a top 12 team in the state. Tony and Kareem rallied together despite the difficult conditions.

“Some of his best personality traits are his ability to push through hardships and how he makes people around him better,” said Sassen.
