Junior Katy Beranek is on the front line of the growing environmental youth movement here.

“Her worldwide environmental efforts are super inspiring and impressive. She is always working to achieve something big,” said junior Helen Rinaolo, “She really is one of the most genuine, positive, and humble people I’ve ever met.”

During the COVID-19 quarantine, Katy founded an intriguing environmental group, Water Solutionaries, which is an environmental protection group specifically directed to the protection of fresh water sources, such as the Great Lakes in North America and the Great Lakes region in Africa. The group specifically targets collaboration between the two regions to share information about water accessibility and the issues each of the two regions face.

Because of her accomplishments within Water Solutionaries, she is set to speak at the Conference of Parties (COP26) virtually in Glasgow, Scotland today.

Katy is also known for her dedication towards both her academic and athletic abilities, especially with golf.

“Katy is a dedicated member of the golf team, and her positive attitude never fails to raise the team’s morale and spirits,” said senior Chloe Lee.
