Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach Mike Nilles is recognized for his hard work and dedication to helping his students learn and his players improve.

The former Indiana University baseball player is also a 5th grade teacher at Lake Bluff Elementary School. His days include a full day of teaching at the elementary school, and then a drive to either West campus or East campus for his coaching duties.

One of Nilles’ best traits is his ability to help players grow outside of the game of baseball.l.

“Coach Nilles not only cares about the growth of us athletes, but encourages us to become great teammates and get to know one another,” said senior outfielder Mike Hartmann.

Nilles encourages the team to warm up together, play games when not practicing, and throwing with a new partner each day in order to keep his team connected.

“It’s a privilege to play for him,” says senior second baseman Zach Porter. “He’s a great coach and an even better role model. The type of coach you wish you had your whole life.”

Coach Nilles is a role model for sure. He teaches his team to appreciate their families, be responsible, and learn from mistakes in both baseball and life.

“Aside from being an amazing baseball coach, Nilles never fails to bring energy and enthusiasm to practice and games,” says catcher Ian Dillow.
