Helena Murphy

With junior Helena Murphy, it isn’t just her kindness and compassion that catches your attention, but her devotion as a friend and her sheer talent as a musician and singer.

“Other than being extremely hardworking, I enjoy Helena’s sense of humor and the fact that she is such a genuine and unpretentious person. I appreciate how thoughtfully she reads and writes about our books in class, and always love hearing her Chick Fil A stories!” English teacher Mrs. Jane Eccleston said

Outside of class, Helena is devoted to her music. She’s been singing and playing guitar since an early age.

“Helena has never taken a lesson. She has self-taught everything, starting with the guitar, which is her passion, and now on the keyboard and drums. She loves being a musician and has only grown to love it more during the quarantine. She is constantly on her guitar learning new songs, trying to write new music and create new things,” said senior Gabi Murphy.

Helena strives for perfection. But her personality shines too. She’s often making people laugh, which helps her bond with both teachers and students.

“Helena is one of my best friends. I’ve known her since kindergarten and we have been so close ever since we meet.  She has one of those personalities that will make me laugh no matter what and is the most talented person I know. I am so lucky to call her one of my best friends,” junior Madelyn Liebelt said.

Despite the brevity of the season, Helena competed in shot put for the track team. She performed amazingly and broke her set records before the five-week season was over.

“Helena is honestly the funniest person I know and there’s never a dull moment with her. She’s always quick to crack a joke and make everyone in the room laugh. I’m so lucky to have her as a classmate and teammate, she’s so incredibly determined and pushes herself so much, she never gives up,” junior Catherine Wilber said.
