Matty Micheal

Standing at a solid 4′ 8,” sophomore Matty Micheal relies on her big personality to make up for what she’s lacking in height.

Just kidding: She’s 5’2, but, yes, her personality is still huge. 

I was planning to quit field hockey my sophomore year because I didn’t want to be on a team with almost all freshmen. After one of the first games with Matty, though, my mindset was changed. She made all of the games and practices worthwhile by reminding me to have fun.

Matty can make anyone laugh within seconds. In fact, I was actually benched for half of a game and told to “take a break” because we couldn’t stop laughing. Unfortunately, I was benched alone because everyone (including our coach) loves Matty. Also because if Matty was benched our success rate would go down by at least 60%. 

She might come off as shy when you first meet her, but that girl is like a firecracker. Every person you introduce her to ends up getting along with her.  

“Matty brings positive energy everywhere she goes,” junior Katie Hart said. “She finds a way to bond with almost everyone whether it’s through music taste, sense of humor,  or anything else.” 

She may be small, but Matty’s field hockey hit is anything but that. Sometimes when Matty would hit the ball down the field, the opposite team would gasp and say things like, “Did you see that?” After some games, girls would go up to Matty and compliment her hits. 

Overall, Matty is an amazing friend and such a great person to be around.

 “Some of the best and funniest memories are with Matty. She’s the type of person who can always put a smile on your face no matter what mood you’re in. She’s also such a supportive, humble, and kind person that anyone can count on,” sophomore Maeve Bradley said.
