Lake Forest Stuns No. 1 Benet Academy on Buzzer Beater From Molly Fisher

LOMBARD — Despite a 12-2 record on the season and two resounding victories to open up the Montini Christmas Tournament over Nazareth Academy and Lyons, the Lake Forest Scouts entered Saturday’s semifinal matchup against the number one team in the state, the Benet Academy Red Wings, as underdogs.
It was the classic Rocky vs. Apollo matchup.
The game would live up to the classic battles of Rocky vs. Apollo in the classic film series, as both teams went down to the final ten seconds of the game throwing a punch but not seeming to get that final knockout blow.
But then with just seconds remaining and after getting her initial shot blocked, junior Molly Fisher put up a baseline jumper that went through the hoop as the horn sounded giving the Scouts a stunning 45-44 victory over the once undefeated Red Wings.

“On the final shot, I was just saying to myself please go in, please go in, and thankfully it went in,” said Fisher. “To beat the number 1 team in the state is just an amazing feeling and we’re looking forward to more competitive games like that in the future.”
For Fisher, this tournament has been memorable for her. In the opening game on Thursday against Nazareth, she buried a career-high six threes in the Scouts 47-36 victory.
“I got to give the credit to my teammates,” said Fisher. “They have been doing a great job finding me open and that has allowed to me get a lot more open looks.”
The victory for the Scouts gives them a 13-2 record on the season and they will move on to the championship game on Monday evening against Evanston at 8:15 pm. Evanston is coming off a victory over host Montini Catholic last evening and is going to be a tough matchup for the Scouts.
“They do a great job getting the ball inside,” said Fisher. “We are going to have to communicate well if we want to slow them down.”
