Girls Basketball Recap (12/7-12/13)
Scouts go 2-2 overall, team sits at 9-2 for the season.
December 17, 2019
The Varsity Girls Basketball team had a busy week of games before finals, as they played four games from December 7th to December 13th. Overall, the team went 2-2, a record that doesn’t reflect how hard they played against a fair share of tough teams, like Marist and Lake Zurich. Here is a recap of what went down in the team’s four games over the past week:
December 7: vs. Marist @ Fremd Shootout: L 53-57
Despite Halle Douglass’ 23 points, the Scouts lost a tight ballgame to the talented Marist Redhawks. The game was a defensive slugfest for the first three quarters, but the Scouts did outscore Marist in the fourth quarter, 19-15, but it just wasn’t enough as the Scouts dropped their first game of the season after winning their first seven ballgames.
December 10: vs. St. Charles North @ Exam Jamm/LZHS: W 52-43
Looking to rebound following their loss to Marist, the Scouts battled St. Charles North who was 5-2 on the season entering play. The Scouts were lead offensively by Douglass, who dropped 25 points, and junior Finola Summerville, who had 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. The Scouts shot 54% as a team as they picked up their eighth victory of the season, 52-43 over the North Stars.
December 11: at Mundelein: W 45-10
After their tournament games were finished, the Scouts returned to conference play on December 11 against Mundelein and utterly dominated the Mustangs, 45-10, holding them to 9% field goal shooting. On the offensive side, Finola Summerville dropped 18 points to lead the offense and freshman Rachel Kaus chipped in 5 points. This was perhaps the best defensive performance the Scouts will have all season ― limiting a conference opponent to just ten points in a whole game.
December 13: at Lake Zurich: L 39-47
In a big conference matchup, the Scouts struggled to shoot the basketball for the second straight game, converting a rate of 30% from the field, as the Bears beat the Scouts, 47-39. The Scouts lead for most of the ballgame, but the Bears went on a 20-6 run in the fourth, causing the Scouts to drop their first game in conference this season. Halle Douglass shook off a rough shooting game against Mundelein to lead the offense with 24 points and Molly Fisher had 10, but it just wasn’t enough for the Scouts as they fell into a four-way tie for first place in the North Suburban Conference.
The Scouts’ next game will be at home on Thursday night against the Waukegan Bulldogs on Feeder Night. The game will be at 7:30 pm at the Competition Gym. Stay tuned to The Forest Scout for recaps following every game.
In other news: Halle Douglass was recently just named the Wintrust Athlete of the Week by NBC Sports Chicago! Congratulations to Halle on this award and to go check out their profile on her click here.
