About 2 years ago, LFHS created a new schedule. This schedule consists of having two block days on Wednesday and Thursday with school starting at 9am, but then on Monday, Tuesday, Friday it is a regular day, with school beginning at 8:15am.

Before this change the five day week used to be all regular days. No one has ever really heard opinions on whether they enjoy block days or regular days better and if they would rather have all block days or all regular days. Here are some of the responses.

“I like block days better because you have a longer time to learn.”

Would you rather have all block days or all regular days? 

“I would rather have all block days because the lunch is longer and we get to sleep in.”

Do you like block days or regular days better?

“I like block days better because we get to start school later and wake up later. Also, we can go in and ask teachers for additional help before school and we have more time in class to really comprehend what we are learning. We also have less homework that is due the next day and that puts less stress on our growing minds and bodies.”

Would you rather have all block days or all regular days? 

“I would like to have block days for 4 days of the week and then a regular day to wrap things up at the end of the week and recap on all that we covered.”

Do you like block days or regular days better?

“I like regular days better because it makes my day go by faster and the block days kind of messes me up because there really isn’t much to do. I get tired just walking around the hallways sometimes, it gets kind of repetitive. At least with the regular days, I get 15 minute breaks with my co-workers and also lunch, so it makes my day go back quicker.”

“I like regular days better because on block days you could have all your hard classes in one day and it adds stress.

“I would rather have all regular days because I’d rather have all of my class everyday and not split, also because on some block days you could have all of your hard classes in one day, but I do think that late starts are nice.”

“I like regular days because I feel as if block days are sometimes so boring depending on the class. For example math. I don’t always have the attention span for 80 minutes straight, most of the time without a break. Block days have the potential to be great if they can be scheduled well, but unfortunately they aren’t usually.”

Would you rather have all block days or all regular days? 

“I would rather have all regular days because if we did block days everyday students could potentially be given double the homework and forget the new material during the long amount of time outside of class. This could be negative for testing. I think our lives are currently absolutely perfect.”
