Willow Volkert’s New Blog Against Climate Change

Ava Manelis, Editor-in-Chief

Senior Willow Volkert has created an environmental blog exposing the issues of climate change after being inspired by her AP Environmental Geoscience class last year.

In this class, Volkert watched the movie Racing Extinction, which covered a ton of the mass extinctions happening around the world due to climate change.

“I became super passionate about the issue and realized that there are a ton of small things people in our community can do to make a difference, but that they would never know if no one told them,” she said.

This newfound information and passion that Volkert gained sparked her interest to create a blog about these issues.

“I had debated starting a blog for a while, and it’s always been something that I have wanted to do,” Volkert said.

And thus, Willow’s environmental education was born.

Volkert said that her ultimate goal of the blog is to “spread awareness about the immediacy of climate change” and “show people how they can make small changes in their lifestyle that will make a huge difference.”

She said that it’s so important for everyone to learn about climate change and the consequences of it because climate change is not a partisan issue.

“It is something that is going to affect every single thing on this planet, no matter where you are on the political spectrum,” Volkert said.

Volkert also said that it’s an issue that we need to realize now because it’s urgent and affecting our planet as we speak.

She also said that people just don’t care about the issue because they don’t realize that it’s going to affect them. But with the help of Volkert’s blog, everyone can see that it’s an issue that should be important to them.

“No one should roll their eyes at the blog and think I’m exaggerating this issue because having that mindset is what is going to kill the earth,” she said.

Finally, Volkert said, “education about the climate change crisis is the only way we are going to fix it.”

So, check out Volkert’s blog and educate yourselves on the issue! 🙂
