In this series, I will look at random days of each month to inform readers about important events that occurred on that exact day in years prior.
For the first “On This Day,” we are going to go back in history on Valentines Day, February 14.
- In 1948, USA NASCAR held the first race for modified stock cars. The track was 3.2 miles long at Daytona Beach.
- In 2008, there was a school shooting at Northern Illinois University. Former student Steven Kazmierczak opened fire in a lecture hall, where seven people were killed and 14 were injured. This is known as the fourth deadliest university shooting in the United States.
